What's Up With Frank Lorenzo?

Fri Mar 29, 2002 11:59 am

Any new projects, unions to kick around, etc etc? Haven't heard about him in ages, he wasn't that old when we last heard from him...

The last word I heard on Frank "Let Me Kill Your Airline" Lorenzo, was when he tried to start up Friendship Airlines, back in the early 90's (after EA's demise at his hands). From what I heard, the DOT basically banned him for life from the industry as the only thing he had proved he was good at was dismantling and destroying airlines! Good riddance!

He briefly re-emerged in 2000 when the unions found out he was a financial backer of the Bush campaign. Not surprisingly, they implored their members to vote for Gore, fearful of what favours Lorenzo might be owed in return for his support.

Save for a brief appearance in a PBS documentary, he's otherwise kept a low profile.

I dreamt of Lorenzo last night......roasting on a spit in hell!  Acting devilish
I work for Southwest, but the views expressed are my own and do not necessarily represent those of Southwest.

I have often told A&P Mechanics if your having trouble finding a good job in aviation find where Frank Lorenzo lives walk right up to him and punch him in the face. Beyond the assault charge you may receive you would be guaranteed a great job in aviation for sure since many of the people he screwed over are now in prominent position within the industry. They would surely applaud your actions. A joke of course folks...

While we are talking about Frank Lorenzo, maybe y'all can help me compile a list of the airlines he destroyed (directly and indirectly):

Texas International (merged with CAL)
New York Air (started using TXI aircraft)
People Express (merged with CAL)
Braniff (I forgot what happened here)
Rocky Mountain (became CAL EX)
Britt Airways (became CAL EX)
Provincetown-Boston Airways (became CAL EX)
Eastern (sold off piece-by-piece)
National (failed attempt at hostile take-over)
Pan Am (Lorenzo inflated National's stock price, Pan Am forced to buy)
Frontier (again, I forgot what happened)
Continental...almost (plunged into bancruptcy twice)
Muse Air (help me on this one)
Pride Air (not really destroyed, but started as a result of disgruntled CAL pilots...later failed)
Presidential Airways (not sure)

Ramper@IAH,

Wow, thats a big list.

I think you should add,

--suspected mastermind behind JFK assasination
--real reason there is trouble in the Middle East
--invented root canal

kind regards,
