Airport Code On Your License Plate?

Sat Mar 30, 2002 12:24 am

Hey guys, does your license plate number on your car contain any airport codes?

On my two cars, I have KAT (Kaitaia, New Zealand) and KCK (Kansas City ?)

What about you?

The first three letters on my wife's license plate are ADE, Aden International.
Several years ago I had a Connecticut plate ending in BOP, which is Bouar, Central African Republic.

KCK will not turn up on an airport search as it's not an airport. It's a general city code for Kansas City. Like LON for London, MOW for Moscow, STO for Stockholm, NYC for New York, WAS for Washington and so on and so on ... These are mostly used to make the life easier for reservation agents to find flights to/from specific cities - and not specific airports as some have more than one ..

You know, I am surprised no one has posted this topic before. I know I notice airport codes on license plates when I am driving or walking through a parking lot. Yes, its a little odd, but they kind of pop out at you if you are interested in such a thing. However, my license plate does not have an airport code in it. Oh well...good topic though.

hmmmm, no airports with VXB as the code. At least from the list Dripstick posted. I also noticed that they have YBW as Bedwell Harbour B.C. when it's actually Springbank Alberta.

I just checked the letters of my plate and AGA is Agadir, Morocco,...who knew?
Also in New York, with our new plates, it will be pretty easy to get an airport code by chance (FYI).  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Vincent32, I thought the same exact thing because the new New York State plates devote the 3 first characters to letters only (ex: AAA 1234). The new plates were given out alphabetically I believe. I was hoping for ALB when the new plates came out, but I got stuck with a non-airport code. There will be a lot of them out there for New Yorkers though.

The personalized plates on my car bear my initials followed by my wife's initials, RAD and JAD.

RAD - Tortola, Road Town in the British Virgin Islands

JAD - Jandakot, Australia

The funny thing is that I never new this until I read this post and took a moment to check for airport code matches. Shawn, thanks for asking this trivial but fun question!
