i was pretty surprised to see QF 105 tonday, from rome to sin... however, the flight seems that it is not going down south.. also, QF 5, which goes on the frankfurt - sin - syd.. now also goes to CNS... ??? very surprised...

what will qantas do with singapore? will they base aircrafts there? how will their singapore operations be? any changes in aircrafts for their flights into their biggest hub ?

SIN is now Qantas' main asian hub. With the exception of QF 1 on SYD-BKK-LHR and return, all QF services to Europe will route through SIN including FCO and all FRA flights.

I'm not sure what the plan is but i believe some aircraft will do only SIN-Europe rotations with a plane change in SIN for pax continuing to Australia. Can anyone confirm this???

Also I believe QF will be putting some 747s on SIN-PER flights replacing at least one of the 763 flights.

For some years, QANTAS has made SIN their hub for Australia - Europe services, with full traffic rights SIN - Europe so far as I know.

Can someone explain what Singapore Airlines receives in exchange for the exceptionally generous fifth-freedom traffic rights QANTAS enjoys at SIN?

SQ get competition.

And knowledge that there are other carriers out there, so they have to stay ahead of the game.

Why would SIA receive anything ?

It is between the Singapore government and Qantas, nothing to do with SIA.

As I understand it, QF's Rome service will now terminate in SIN every second day and the 743 will then return to Rome. On the alternate day the service will continue to SYD via BNE. Previously this service continued daily from SIN to SYD via MEL.

On the national front, Singapore does not practice protectionism, so in a sense, SQ does not really benefit from this.

The aim of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore is to make Changi profitable by attracting more carriers to SIN and maximising the capacity that the airport can take. The CAAS has no intention of making SIN less competitive by protecting its own carrier at the expense of being profitable.

The good thing that I can see out of this is the intense competition on the kangaroo route. SQ basically thrives on competition, and consumers like us benefit as they (SQ) constantly upgrades itself and its products.
There's always a better way to fly...

What does SIA receive in return? With nearly 70 weekly flights and rights to carry passengers between Australia and Europe, SIA gets plenty in return, methinks.

What is QF41/42, is that SIN-BKK? If not do QF still operate this flight? Didn't they also used to operate BKK-HKG?

PER-SIN will be upgraded to 747 in November.
I guess that will be QF72/71 arr/dep PER 1420/1545.
QF77 dep PER 0820 for SIN-HKG will probably remain a 763 if that routing stays.

It'll be to see QF 747s back on international services from PER in addition to their SYD & MEL services.

I just did a schedule check for December and so far, none of the 14 SIN-PER flights are on 747s, all on 767s at this point.
It also appears the SIN/JKT leg is no more too. I thought QF were happy with this operation. I always thought that this was used by BA to feed its oneworld traffic from London to Jakarta. Anyway, Im sure they will feed it onto CX's daily flight on the route. I'm guessing that the BA/CX connection will be timed accordingly.

QF 81 is SYD-ADL-DRW-SIN

QF 6 should be a 744 service, dunno whether it to CNS or not, it might.

It is actually QF5 4 days and QF17 3 days, these are 744's! QF105 operates once a week with a 743 connecting to QF15 which continues to FCO 3 days a week.
The BNE and CNS to SIN services are all operated on 763's. So i'm guessing that QF have based a 743 and 744 in SIN.

I will check on the schedules now!

The only QF flights between SYD-SIN now are
QF29 3x weekly via DPS 2x763, 1x742
QF17 3x weekly 744 to CDG
QF5 4x weekly 744 to FRA
QF15 1x weekly 743 to FCO as QF15 3x weekly
QF31 4x weekly 744 to LHR

NO more QF41-42 and 123-124!

but i thought QF is going daily on the fra leg.. QF will return to daily ( before they introduce the CDG flight)

so, like last time when they operate to fra X 4 and CDG X 3... with the introduction of the fco flight, the fra goes daily, and the cdg goes 4 times, with fco 3 Xs.. i not sure. kinda confused.. but the thing about them to base 1 743 and 744 is helpful. did they base a 763 as well?

Although not reknown for it's reliability (it still shows AN doing PER-DSP-PER flts) the Perth Airport N. Summer schedule shows a QF124 on Fri & Sun doing BOM-SIN-PER replacing the normal QF72 for the SIN-PER sector.

QF seem to do a fair bit of repositioning of B763s through PER for the non-daily international services to DSP, CGK & NRT.

Recently Tuesday's QF34 AKL-MEL has been continuing onto PER to the international terminal for probably similar reasons- saves the 20 min tow from the domestic terminal I guess.

Geoffery Thomas reports in

http://www.thewest.com.au/20020404/news/perth/tw-news-perth-home-sto51281.html

that it will be the afternoon (QF71/72) PER-SIN-PER flights that will have the 767-300ERs replaced by 747s to provide better inflight services to compete with SQ & MH B777s.
The complete flights will be apparently PER-SIN-CDG 4 x weekly and PER-SIN-FCO 3 x weekly. QF17 & QF15 maybe?

At last connections again from PER to/from FCO & CDG through SIN without routing through BKK & MEL or backtracking to LHR and then SIN-PER.

thanxs perthGloryFan..

but actually, the fco flight uses a 743, while the cdg flight uses a 744. so, will the flight from perth be a 744, 743, or will it be the new 744X?

FRA is still daily all flights use 744's now so no more 743's for FRA, but not all of the flights continue to SYD! You have to connect to 1 of the other QF flights to get to your port in Australia! eg. QF9 or QF6 or QF17.
CDG is 3x weekly, anyone no what happened to the plan to operate via FRA went?
