SIA/Thai Adding Charter Flights To Taiwan

Tue Apr 02, 2002 8:28 am

Both Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways will add few charter flights to Taiwan.

Singapore Airlines:

Flights to Kaohsiung will increase from 3 to 6-8 weekly flight between April and May. However, the additional 3-5 flight (SQ8975/8976/8978) will only operate on certain dates.

Original SQ877/878 will operate by A310, SQ8975/8976 will operate by B777.

Thai Airways:

Thai Airways will fly (seems like trial flight or charter flight) from Utapao (a resort destination near Pattaya Thailand) to both Kaohsiung and Taipei.

Flights to Taipei from Utapao will operate on 4/10 and 4/11, while to Kaohsiung (one-stop at BKK) will operate on 4/17 and 4/18. Both operate by A330.

Any idea why this is (with regards to Singapore Airlines Limited)?

Trial capacity flights? People stranded after Easter? Nothing to do?
Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

Perhaps Thai is trying to see how's the load to Taiwan from Utapao. Utapao has become a popular gateway for Taiwanese, since it's closer to Pattaya.

Taiwan's Transasia Airways, UNI Airways and Mandarin Airlines both flies to Utapao, I believe.
