Launch Customer For A380?

Wed Apr 03, 2002 4:14 am

Does SQ hold this honor? Did they sign the contract first?

I believe its Emirates. About the first flight; SIA will make the first departure with a revenue flight, flying from SIA to LHR. Emirates will depart the same day but later from DXB in order to make the first landing with arevenue flight. Atleast that's what I've read.

Noel Forgear (sp) has said on two occassions that Singapore Airlines Limtited will make the first flight. However as mentioned above, this is vague.

In addition, I see no interest in SIA of flying to LHR firstly becuase it is apparently going to put it on it's most profitable route, SIN - HKG - SFO.

Singapore Airlines could also do SIN - KUL just to get the first revenue flight departure and arrival.

In addition, I think it would be better of Airbus to make the A380 as quickly as possible and not wait until they have made 2 and then deliver them.
Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

Sometimes things aren't so logical as they might look...

I think it would be better of Airbus to make the A380 as quickly as possible and not wait until they have made 2 and then deliver them.

It would be quicker for Airbus to borrow back the first few customer airplanes for certification flight testing. When certification is complete, they can go into service simultaneously.

OK....but who ordered it first? I think it was SQ that singed the LOI first....but Emirates signed the first contract?

They'll probably build a few prototypes that will go to Emirates and SIA. Virgin operate a couple of A340 prototypes.
