News On MAN Long-haul Routes

Thu Apr 04, 2002 7:13 am

Via the MAN website, BBC Ceefax, the CAA website and "informed sources" :

First up is the (possible) introduction of a 2nd weekly flight to Ashkhbad. There's one due in tomorrow at 5.50am (!) and I don't know if this is in addtion to or replacing the Friday service!

Second, Air Atlanta 747 TF-ATW will 99.99% certain be operating to MCO on behalf of Virgin as VS have applied to have that aircraft on lease from 1st May to 10th November which just happens to be the period of time when the service will operate!

Third, China Airlines service started on Monday..just about saw it through the rain and cloud - such unusual weather conditions for MAN  Wink/being sarcastic. MAN website reports: "The service into Manchester will operate on Monday (via Luxembourg), Thursday and Saturday (via Amsterdam) with the inbound aircraft also landing at Bangkok and Abu Dhabi en route from Taipei. The aircraft will land at Manchester at 1740 hours. Outbound flights return to Taipei via Abu Dhabi and Bangkok."

Fourth, the well publicised Air Jamaica route starts 31st May (and no doubt the customs officers are chuffed at the thought of this service  Wink/being sarcastic)

Fifth, JMC Airlines are due to start charter flights to Grand Bahama in May and, also fly to Cuba, Dominican Republic and Orlando this summer.

Sixth, Air Canada to restart on 8th April 4 times weekly using 767s, going daily on June 1st with possibility of A330s and A340s on the Friday and Sunday services between July and September.

Seventh, four new flights to Canada are being provided by tour operator Canadian Affair with My Travel and JMC Airlines.

Eighth, Malaysian returned yesterday!

All other services "as you were" as far as I remember.

Anything about Cathay or are they out of MAN for good?
When you hear the noise of the Tartan Army Boys, we'll be coming down the road!

SURELY Cathay will come back soon! How are the Bmi US services doing? Will BA keep the JFK for the forseeable future? Whats this about Delta operating a MAN-BOS-JFK route? Do you expect Qatar to start as predicted? Whats going on with PIA at the mo? whats the summer sched and equipment?

Air Jamaica will be the prettiest plane there this summer!

A minor hiccup I hear today is that the BWIA proposed service has hit regulatory bi-lateral problems; something to do with service between P-O-S and the UK.
Service was planned for Thursday and Sunday, starting some time this year, using initially a YES L1011 on lease.
I am led to believe the problem is more an administrative hiccup rather than anything more serious, so I hope this service will get off the ground eventually afterall.

HUYfan, ORD and IAD have both performed well in March and this month up to now; both were also full in the build up to the easter holiday period.
