Aces To Start Non-stop Miami-Cali Service

Thu Apr 04, 2002 3:20 pm

Aces will stop non-stop service between Miami and Cali just in time for the summer. Service will be daily using an A320 aircraft. American Airlines has been the only airline on the route non-stop after Avianca combined Cali with Barranquilla after 9.11. However, with AA moving thier BAQ operations to nearby MDE this summer, Avianca's MIA-BAQ flight will no longer continue to CLO and Aces will fill the gap. The mountain city of Cali is the third largest in Colombia, and it's nice to see Aces filling in the gap that future partner(?) Avianca left.

What's happening with Aces / Avianca is that they are changing their schedules so they won't be overlapping their routes. One routes where both Aces and Avianca are both operating, only one or the other will operate. This applies only to international routes.

Avianca MIA/BOG - effective May 20. Avianca will operate 3x daily

Avianca MIA/CTG/MDE - to be discontinued on May 19

Aces MIA/CTG/MDE - effective May 20

Avianca MIA/BAQ/CLO - to be discontinued on May 19 (only will operate as MIA/BAQ)

Aces MIA/MDE/CLO - to be discontinued on May19

Aces MIA/CLO - effective May 20

Aces MIA/MDE - effective May 20

Avianca BOG/LIM - discontinued on May 19

Aces BOG/LIM - effective May 20

Aces BOG/CCS - discontinued on May 19 (Avianca will operate 4 daily flights)

Avianca BOG/SJO - discontinued on May 19

Aces BOG/SJO - effective on May20

Avianca will continue to operate service from Bogota to:
MAD (daily)
JFK (daily)
GYE (daily)
UIO (3x daily)
EZE-SCL (daily)
GIG-GRU (4x week)
AUA (daily)
CUR (2x week)
MEX-LAX (4x week)
PTY (2x daily)

Also Avianca will continue to offer 2 weekly flights on the JFK-MDE-CLO route.

That was San Juan's sole South American airline, now you either fly Copa or American if you want to fly to South America. Everyday we depend more and more on AA.

Any word on whether AV will resume service to LHR, CDG, FRA or if they'll announce some new European gateway?

What, no IAH ?

It never ceases to amaze me that Houston can only attarct only lackluster sevice to Latin America.

Thomasphoto60, I believe the reason is that most of IAH's South America traffic is probably FROM Houston, so fliers are very likely to fly Continental rather than Avianca, Aces, etc. Whereareas MIA/JFK/LAX traffic is more equal in both directions.

Hi Mah4546,

I agree. Perhaps I should have made my point clearer however. My point being is that I believe that IAH can certainly support services from both CO as well as either AV and/or Aces.
