Any News On The Pilot Who Busted DC Airspace?

Fri Apr 05, 2002 2:29 am

Earlier this week I heard that a commercial pilot was suspended for flying over the Whitehouse after a take off from DCA, but I haven't been able to find an article or a thread online- Anyone have any info?

I wonder how close they were to shooting them down?
Last year 1,944 New Yorkers saw something and said something.

Probably not close at all: The controllers alerted the plane of their mistake and they immediately corrected course. Hardly something that could be interpreted as a threat.

The pilots should be grounded...permanently.

Perhaps a suspension, but nothing more than that.... he corrected his mistake when he was alerted, so what's the problem? i know it's dangerous but... it was just a mistake

411a, give me one good reason why they should fire the pilots? It is a big deal that he violated restricted airspace but I don't think they'll fire them for the mistake, it's the secret service who has to take the risk and it's not really their fault.

I recently heard about a general aviation single engine plane who barely clipped P-56 and the FAA and secret service didn't suspend the private pilot's license or grounded him. Just questioned why and he explained and was released.

They'll just gound the pilots until the investigation is over. Don't think they'll get the boot.

I agree, the pilots should not be grounded or fired, etc.

What is rather funny is their excuse for flying over the White House. According to yesterday's Good Morning America broadcast, the pilots said the wind caused them to go off course. GMA asked their aviation correspondent, John Nance, a very respected pilot, if this could happen. He plainly told them, no way. They made a mistake, but to lie about it and say the wind caused them to go off course, now that is a joke !!

The pilots are suspended with pay pending investigation.
