Air Transat

Sat Apr 06, 2002 12:28 am

I just recently had the pleasure of flying Air Transat from FLL-YYZ the other day. They are the largest Canadian Charter airline. I was very impressed with the service of the cabin crew. It was an easy 2hr. 40 min. flt. and they served a nice snack along with 2 beverage services. The plane was a L-1011 which was kinda cool as there aren't that many flying anymore. They are really a dying breed that will not be flying much longer anywhere in the world. The plane was well kept on the interior. I think it either came from TAP Air Portugal or Royal Jordanian. Anyhow, I was wondering what other travellers experiences have been with Air Transat? Please post.

I've flown them before, Mirabel to the Dominican Republic. It was a long flight. The seats were narrow as hell. A year and half later, the same plane ran out of fuel over the Atlantic.
buhh bye

My sister just left for Trinidad (POS) on Tuesday. When she gets back, I would let you know what she thought of the flight, but remember this would be from a non-aviation enthusiasts.

Hey 9Y-ISA,

Your sister flew aboard the Airbus A330-200 going down to Trinidad. I was tracking the flight coming back up from Trinidad on tuesday and it was the A330. What a surprise it was to see Air Transat using the A330-200 on the YYZ-POS route instead of the usual L-1011-500. Hopefully they will keep this up for the summer scheduale.

Regards,

This is what gets me upset. I never get any surprises when I go to Trini. She decides to go to Trinidad with TS and that is when they decided to use the A330. Two weeks ago my Dad went to Trinidad with BWIA and he got a stop out at Barbados and then they use a Dash 8-300 to continue to Port-of Spain. Then to find out that his pilot on the B737 (f\o) was a friend of mines who flown that leg of the trip. For the past couple of times I went to POS was with the BWIA 737. I think this time I MIGHT pick Air Transat so atleast I will get a chance to fly on the L-1011 one more time or if i'm lucky, the A330. I will be upset if they use the B757 which they did a couple of times. I don't think i'll choose Air Canada because there is always a chance they using the A319/320 which I don't really like. I already flew in the AC B767-200 in 1998.

I flew them a couple of times a few years ago.. on YUL-YYZ.. also L-1011s. Everything went well. The planes were well kept. I found the seats sagged a bit and I was more cramped than Air Canada but for the price I paid and the short distance I was going it was fine. They've got a mixed reputation in Canada.. the worse complaint I hear seems to be departure delays due to mechanical problems. Onboard service seems to be ok.

Hey 9Y-ISA,

I went to Trinidad in October with the C3 A330, the last C3 flight into Trinidad and the next week they went out of service. It was great. I hope that Air Transat will keep the A330 on the POS route, im sure they can fill it. Your best bet next time if your going in the summer is to fly Skyservice, as they are sending their A330-300 down. My grandmother is coming up from Trinidad on the 16th with Air Transat, hopefully she'll get the big bird instead of the usual L-1011 or 752.

Regards,

Now, I know everyone 'round here says you can't judge an airline by one experience, and I agree. BUT, since you asked . . .

I flew TS YYZ-LGW and CDG-YYZ 3 years ago. Both flights were late. The CDG-YYZ flight was 4 hours late and made an unscheduled stop in YMX. On the YYZ-LGW leg, the L-1011 was outfitted with 10 abreast seating; I know this is standard for charter airlines but it still sucks. The pitch was abominable as well. All in all, I guess I got what I paid for. At least we didn't have to ditch in the Azores.

Hey BWIA330,
That is the same flight my sister would be coming up on too!!! Talking about C3, when my grandmother came up for the Christmas season last year with C3, one week later the airline filed for bankruptcy but the travel agent in Trinidad (G.G. Tours) paid a ticket for her to go back on TS.

My parents recently flew TS from YYZ-ATH....was supposed to be a nonstop 333...but they boarded an L10 and changed to the 333 in YMX...after a 3 hour wait in YXM....then the 333 ran out of potable water across the Atlantic....so no ice, coffee, tea. The return 333 ATH-YYZ ended up being a 313 which had to refuel coming back...anyway, many of the pax never left ATH & had to be bumped for another TS aircraft 24 hours later. Apparently the 313 was unexpected in ATH.

What an airline.
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Probably why TS doesn't have a mileage program. LOL  Laugh out loud
