What airlines fly the Dash 8? Too many to count! It is a very popular aircraft. Us Airways Express flies quite a few of them.

Another Dash 8 customer are Cirrus Airlines, a German Team Lufthansa franchisee flying 100s and 300s.

I flew several times on -100s and -300s of Team Lufthansa franchisees Augsburg Airways and Cirrus Airlines. I enjoyed those flights very much, I find the Dash 8 to be the most roomy and comfortable prop I´ve flown on (others are ATR, F50 and Do328). What I find especially interesting is the view on the gear - the wheel well is under the wing. Great, especially on touch down.

By the way, in older variants the oxygen masks are stowed under the seat: if need arises you have to get them out and plug them into the outlets above you. Newet planes of course have the standard dropping out procedure.

Is the Q400 popular? What airlines operate them besides SAS?

Dash 8-Q400 operators:
SAS Commuter (Sweden)
Horizon Air (USA)
Augsburg Airways (Germany)
Tyrolean Airways (Austria)
British European (UK)
Wideroe (Norway)
Changan airlines (China)
Hydro-Quebecc (Canada)
JAC - Japan Air Communter (Japan)

SAS and Horizon had big troubles introducing the Dash 8-Q400 - and are still not really satisfied with them, especially SAS is still having technical and reliability problems. They have deferred delivery of the last five outstanding orders.

At Horizon we don't have anymore -100's.

Just the Q200 and Q400 (@#!$%&!#).

From a passenger viewpoint, I like flying on all the Dash 8 variations (flew on an Air BC -300 a couple years back to YVR). The Q400 is a nice smooth ride, also alot of room (35" pitch I think in ours) I personally don't feels it all it's cracked up to be with the "Quiet One" label. And since I fly quite a bit for pleasure and work I feel I can back that up with vast comparisson experiences.

Cheers!

Indeed the Dash 8 is very popular in the Caribbean - it is the most common turboprop airliner there now. The list from Flight International gives the full picture - Air Jamaica Express (planes formerly flown by EC Xpress), Bwee Express, Tobago Express, Caribbean Star, LIAT, Bahamasair and Dutch Caribbean Airlines (formerly Air ALM). As far as I knew Bwee Express had 3 Dash 8 Q300s - I did not know of a 4th one unless they just ordered/received it. Tobago Express, which formerly had just 1 Q300, has received a second recently.

I have flown on the aircraft of Bwee Express, LIAT and Tobago Express and the rides are very smooth and confortable. The later Q editions with the noise and vibration suppression systems are excellent and the cabin is absolutely silent. The Dash 8 is also quite fast - far more so than the old YS11s formerly used on the Trinidad-Tobago sector (15 minutes to 20). Tobago Express specialises on that route though Bwee Express and LIAT also do rotations.

Great plane indeed, the Dash 8.

Hop to it, fly for life!

very nice little planes... but the -400Q version is noticeably quieter. Most recent flights: an SAS -400Q last year, and two Air Nova -100s a week or so ago. All very comfortable in terms of room, and not *too* much noise and vibration...

shameless self-promotion (but KROC doesn't seem to be around right now to object  Innocent) -- i have a trip report of the Air Nova flights in that forum, sinking fast into oblivion  Crying I guess people do prefer reports about those newfangled jets and exotic destinations that they have nowadays  Sad

cheers,

kp
