757 Range

Mon Sep 06, 1999 3:28 pm

How many additional fuel bladders would you have to add to a 757 (in a 144-seat layout) to give it the range to fly from LAX to Europe?

Thanks in advance,

I dont have the answer to your question, but LAX-LGW is 4677nm, with the longest range 757 being a P&W powered B757-200 with "Optionaly increased MTOW" at 3929nm. Just some numbers for anybody that cares

Hmm. I will look into that for you as soon as I find 'the books'

I know Canada3000 Airlines does Vancouver-Calgary-Keflavic-Amsterdam with the same set up as a Vancouver-Toronto. Keep in mind this is in cattle-class configuration (226 damn seats crammed into that tube). I'm not complaining. It's a great airline.

The Calgary-Keflavic leg is around 9 and a half hours long and the fifty-seven has not prob with it.

Los Angeles to Europe? Whewy! I'd hate to be crammed into a 757 for that long   144 config. is okay though, i'd imagine

Again... will look when i find the manuals.

Take care.

Thanks both of you...I was looking for that C3 article in Airways last night (before I posted) to see how long of a flight the '57 could endure!

Yikes Tygue! Our B757's are gliders at 9:30!

But seriously folks, the YYC-KEF sector averages 6:40 northbound and 7:00 southbound at M0.80 with a cost index of 50, and at optimum altitudes.

We have one longer sector, HNL-NAN (Honolulu to Nadi, Fiji) averaging 6:55 southbound and 6:50 northbound, only difference being LRC (Long Range Cruise) vs M0.80.

Some of our westbound flights to Toronto from Europe may exceed 8 hours on a refile, and if the CYYZ weather/ATC is behaving.

A 144 seat config 757 would be nice and comfortable, but the minimum cost of tickets would probably have to increase by more than 100% to make the flight viable economically. As previously stated, C-3's 757's for the most part are in 226 configuration. Our Club Class is in a 205 config. Some European carriers are in 235 config's as they have extra space because of no life rafts.

Personally, I wouldn't want to see a standard seating 757 at any longer range config than it already is. It's current config/range/ETOPS capabilities make it one of the most economical long haul aircraft in today's marketplace. Not a bad reputation for aircraft designed as intercontinental with stage lengths less than 4 hours. Additionally, for every "x" hours airborne, you need "y" capacity lavatories. Perhaps they could convert the empty centre fuel tank to a lav holding tank on realllllllllly long flights!!

Best Regards,

First off, thanks...

Second...the capacity would be 4 in First Class (2x2 with fully recining seats), 20 Business Class (2x2 with 50-55" pitch) and 120Y (32" pitch). With the 24 --fairly pricy-- FC/BC seats, would that make up for the "uneconomical" aspect of the flight?

I also like the fuel tank that doubles as the waste tank! Very nice!!

Thanks...

Oops   I didn't catch that one until you pointed it out! The CYYC-BIKF leg was somewhere between 6 and 7 hours. I was thinking CYVR-BIKF, which was pretty close to 8.5, 9 hours.

Give Me Money

Tue Sep 07, 1999 11:10 am

There is no way you will be able to make money on this flight. 4 first class. That is a joke!!! You really do not have any idea how an airline works. You make so little monwy on economy you probably make 4-5 times as much in first class. I would like to see the figures of you 757 routes. I know that it cost $150,000 to fly from LHR to MCO in a 757 (chartered) And that is 220 pax. The price does not differ tah much between east and west coast. So each one of those seats $618 so from MCO to SFO is about the same distance so that will be about $300,000 so you will need to charge an average of $2083 per ticket to cut clean. You need to think things throw a lot better before you go posting happing. No one will ever let you borrow money if they see what you want to invest it on!!!!!!!!!

Get a life. Gee...I'm so sorry to bother you about such a 'stupid' question. I'm sorry I have an imagination...

Did I ever say I wanted to start this? NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! I was wondering why there aren't any airlines who operated the 757 in a three class layout trans-Atlantic.

God...you really are pathetic!

About FC...

Tue Sep 07, 1999 11:51 am

I'm not stupid...I know that FC will make 10x's what Economy will make, but look at it this way: How many people do you know that are willing to spend 5-10K on a FC seat from SFO-LHR on a brand new airline? How many Economy Class people do you know that are willing to spend a low amount of money on a brand new airline? QUITE A FEW!

You Are Dumb

Wed Sep 08, 1999 9:58 am

You have been talking about an airline you want to start an airline out of SFO. You have even E-mailed me about it. Remember???? No businessman would fly on a brand new airline with any code shares with expensive tickets. And then people at united will lower there fares and you will go bust and feel like an idiot!!! You really do not think things through. And you say that I am pathetic you should never criticize people who are trying to help you out with your ideas. So when you do start you airline it works out and makes you lots of money not make you look like a fool!!!

Airbus Boy.
I think you are the idiot here. Calling someone dumb because you disagree with their opinions just shows how much of an ass you really are.
Fly777UAL is a real life Tripple "Cripple" Seven pilot (I think i'm right.. lol), giving him, most likely, a great deal more aviation experience than you.
I do not agree with several thoughts posted on this board, but I have enough respect and decency to not call someone dumb for not having the same thoughts. Have the balls to admit that maybe your opinion isn't the right one. I know mine usually isn't.

You, sir, are the idiot.

Feel free to disagree. Hopefully in a better way than "You are dumb".

Well put Tygue. I was shocked at the language Airbus boy used in his post. There is a complete lack of decorum and consideration in his language. Remind me never to ask him anything either publicly or privately. This is not the only post in which Airbus boy has used (what I consider) rude and rough language. I think we all need to be careful not only with what we say on this forum but to also call others poor behavior when warranted.

I did not insult anybody!!! I do not class saying some one is 'dumb' as rough language. Where I grow up my father would point thinks out that I did do wrong and say the are dumb and I was dumb. It is a way of saying that the idea is not the brightest. Fly777ual is not a united pilot but a 15(?) year old guy that hopes to start an airline. I am trying to help him sort out his ideas to get something that will work. I have tons of business experience and this is why to I voicing my opinions about ideas on starting up airlines.
You guys have to think of the diversity of the world and the people in this forum. People in different countries are very different and I did not insult them or atleast did not mean to and I apologize if he thought that I was. I just thought that he has thought better ideas then the one he posted.
You guys really need to think what you post and ways the words can be different in other countries. And posts with as little thought as your can come accross as a terrible way to discuss things and people might be hurt with posts like that.

Oh boo hoo...I'm really hurting now.

I do want to start an airline very much, but not now, and certainly not that airline. I'm not as dumb as you think...I'm going to wait for a long time to even venture into that area. I'll rack up a few points in college, and then take my time working in the airlines.

You were trying to help me out, thanks much, but next time use a little constructive critisim instead of reaming people...I was having a "blonde moment" whilest typing that post!

I have heard some much better ideas from you and was shocked to see your name with that. You guys in the US have a much stronger meaning of dumb then we do over here in the UK. Here in the UK it would not have been a big deal. I am sorry if I offended you. When you get through college and get some expereince you might be able to see where I was coming from. But in no way it was meant how it was taken. I hope to see your airline over here in the UK and when you have a team working on it I am sure you will and I will travel on it.

Airbus Boy's Latest Post

I am not here to slam anybody. I am just saying Fly777UAL deserves to have his opinion respected (not necessarily agreed with). It shouldn't matter his age or position. He should get the same decency whether the most senior 777 captain at united or a 12 year old shoveling dog shit to clean up the cities parks.

Tygue,
It seems to me you are running around in circles. First of all you said my language was rough and then you post came up even worse. And you seemed to say that he was a 777 pilot so he knows more then me. Then you say we should not compare each other. You have got me lost in the circle we are in.

United airlines,
Actually I have am a resident of the US I have a house there. It is a vacation home. But I only go there in the winter when it is bloody cold in the UK. Also you need to learn some respect for your elders. Also learn that people in the US (where you are from) are innocent till proven guilty and they have the right to defend themselves before sentencing. So I have not done anything wrong or lied in any way! I think you owe someone owes an apology, and plead for forgiveness!!

You still have no decorum. You are for from the greatest aviation whiz here. And about your other question it makes no sense. You need to read your post before posting it, as there is no relationship between my name and where I have a house. You need to get a better grasp of the English language before you start acting hard core.

Fly77ual,
I never had a problem with you. I actually enjoy hereing some of your ideas about start an airline. And one day I am sure I will fly on it.
