Why A320-200's In Hamburg-Finkenwerder?

Mon Apr 08, 2002 11:24 pm

I was just looking at pictures from Hamburg and I found a few with undelivered A320-200's at Finkenwerder. But since only the (A318), A319 and A321 are built there it doesn't make sense to me to see "green" A320's there...

Are they flown from Toulouse to Hamburg painted there and flown back to Toulouse for delivery or are they then delivered from Hamburg as well?

for example...

Max,
yes they are flown from Toulouse to Hamburg and then back to Toulouse. They will not be delivered from Hamburg.

During their stay in Hamburg they get not painted but they get their interior outfittings at Hamburg.

Hope this helps,

Torben,

Thank you for the information.

What will happen to the A320 production in the future? Weren't there plans to move it to Finkenwerder as well since the A380 will mostly be built in France?

Yes,
there were these plans but now they will do the same with the A380!!!

These will also be flown from Toulouse to Hamburg. But in the case of the A380 they want to do some deliveries from Hamburg as well instead of ferry them back to Toulouse.

Best wishes,
Torben

Tguse,

I know about the rather strange plans to build the A380 in Toulouse fly it to Hamburg for some other jobs and then fly them back to Toulouse for delivery. Only the planes for europe and the middle east will be delivered from Hamburg.

But wasn't it part of the deal that since France has the major jobs to de done on the A380 that Hamburg would get the A320 for that?

I believe this was contemplated but was not realised? imho it would be best to have all widebodies produced at TLS and all narrowbodies at XFW, without any useless flying around of green planes. BTW, because of that, the engines have to be fitted onto the plane at a much earlier stage which involves high costs due to the additional capital which has to be financed for a longer time.

Another strange 320-series deal between TLS and XFW: All A318s are built at XFW, but if the number of them goes past a certain predefined number, the equivalent number of 319s will be built at TLS. Rather confusing, huh?

There have been a lot of rumors about the production of the Airbus narrowbodies, but most of them turned out being not true.

The Airbus A320 production will not move to XFW, simply because there is not enough capacity at XFW to handle all the Airbus narrowbodies. This limited capacity is also responsible for the "deal" mentioned by Airsicknessbag: as soon as the capacity limit is reached (not likely in the near future after the reduction because of September 11th) some Airbus A319 will start to move to TLS. Nevertheless, the interior outfitting of all Airbus narrowbodies will remain at XFW whether they are built at TLS or not.
