MD-90/717 Cockpits

Tue Apr 09, 2002 10:01 pm

Do the MD-90 and the 717 have the same cockpits? What is the commonality of these 2 planes?

As you can see underneath, both flightdecks are quite different; the B717 has a more '777-style' flighdeck, the MD90 just has a modern DC-9 flightdeck:

Although I don't know, it would surprize me if there would be type commonality here, i.e. a pilot would only need one type rating in order to be able to fly both aircraft. But, of course, I can't confirm this.

The MD-90 does have type commonality with the MD-88.

There was also the option to buy the MD-90 with an "MD-11-style cockpit".
For commonality with our MD-80's,SAS chose the older style cockpit, while Saudia went for the newer one.

MD90 is a DC-9 type rating. Same as all MD-80 series airplanes. B717 has its own rating.
