Meeting Alan Mulally At Egpf

Had the pleasure of meeting boeing boss Alan Mulally at Glasgow Airport a couple of nights ago handled there aeroplane and fuelled it came from Seattle Boeing Field going to Dubai, a very nice chap talked to him about the 21st century jet programme for the Beoing 777 and he was telling me how they were going over to persuade Emirates Airlines to buy 25 more 777's.

You're a lucky guy!!! I would love to meet a boss like Mullay from either boeing or airbus, just to ask some questions and get some interesting replies too!

Why the hell would he be flying a 737 from Seattle to Dubai ?, all the stops and refuelings, for what ? just get on another carrier and get there faster, with more comfort, and substancially cheaper than flying the 737 all the way ?

I love the 737NG, but all the way to Dubai ?

Not sure what the interior of that BBJ looks like - but if you had a 737 that looked like this inside - would you rather fly on a commercial carrier?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Also - the BBJ can likely to Seattle-Dubai with one stop - currently - all commercial flights would also require the one stop anyway.

As a very frequent long haul traveler on Continental Business First, I can tell you that no amount of comfort manages to totally overcome the drain that flying long distances takes out of you. I don't care if he has 8 women massaging him for the duration of the flight, it still takes it out of you, and I think he may be better off in First class getting there in 13 hours or so, instead of the best part of 25 hours. I would think that the 700 series would probably do SEA- Gander, then Gander to Somewhere in Europe, then on to Dubai. I don't know if they are carrying extra Pilots to make the flight, most pilots wouldnt want to fly for 20+ hours straight, so they need paid etc, it isnt going to be cheaper to fly that 737 all the way with the crew etc, than it would be for him to have a nice sleeper bed for 13 hours

Artsyman,

Firstly don't quite agree with you there how can you compare going on a First Class Aircraft with going on a BBJ?? really no comparison whatsoever.

Secondly, there were 5 crew and 4 pax aboard the aircraft, which consisted of 2 pilots 1 flight engineer and 2 stewardesses, the first sector from Seattle Boeing field to Glasgow took 8 hours and 18 minutes and the second sector took 7 hours 10 minutes and I has the aeroplane turned around in 1 hour 5 minutes so all in total journey time was 15 hours 33 minutes so that puts your 25 hour argument out of the window.

Dunno what you mean about the fact it would only make Seattle-Gander in 1 stop, you do realise that is only 4 hours flight, are you seriously saying that the 737-700 only has enough endurance to make it that far, come on man read about its performance or even better why dont you read the other thread about the N737ER 737BBJ which went from Seattle to Jeddah in 14 hours or so DIRECT, yes non stop!!!

No, I wasn't suggesting that, but I would be very very surprised if the 737 could do SEA>GLA in one leg, and Gander seemed as good a place as any to do a refuel. I could have chose Iceland, Greenland, Gander, I chose Gander, makes not a big difference.

where does it say that it made SEA>GLA non stop, I am impressed if its true

The BBJ has far more fuel capacity than your average 737NG. Tanks are located where you would otherwise find cargo holds.

Because I am telling you it did!!!!!, have a copy of ther flight plan here did you actually read any of my post and what about the bit regarding N737ER going for 14 hours from Seattle to Jeddah.

Had it occured to you guys that the BBJ was headed out there on a sales trip / demo and Mulally hitched a ride? Saves the 1st class air fare too...

The aeroplane has just passed through Glasgow again today going back to Seattle Boeing Field with Mr Mulally saying it was a very positive trip so I guess Emirates just might be buying some more Boeing 777's!!!!
