Hello!

I was wondering if anybody out there knew if delta still flew between Austin and San Antonio? I know that they used to do an SLC-AUS-SAT-SLC route but I can't seem to find any such flight on http://www.delta.com

Any help is greatly appreciated. (I am trying to figure out the number of daily Delta flights out of AUS, so far I've found 15).

It's DL1705 with a routing of SAT-AUS-SLC-SAT

DL 1705 SLC-SAT-AUS-SLC.
No return on that; in fact there is no commercial scheduled service direct from AUS to SAT.
Interesting, isn't it?

No, they fly one SAT-AUS. 70miles 31 mins.

I tried typing in SAT-AUS and AUS-SAT on the delta website for like 12 different dates this month and never got any hits.

Oops! The routing is SLC-SAT-AUS-SLC. The only difference is the origin and termination of the flight.

I've been on Flight 1705 2 or 3 times over the past few years. It was kind of neat because I'd have the sam flight number coming and going. The outbound (from AUS) was nonstop while the return involved a stop at SAT.

Delta used to have another mainline flight to SLC throgh SAT, though. If I remember correctly it flew SLC-SAT-AUS, then spent the night in AUS, then left the next morning and flew AUS-SAT-SLC. I think Delta got rid of it when they brought in the regional jet from Skywest, which now does the second nonstop AUS-SLC and return.

Are The Turboprops Dying Out?

Hi. I guess you could call me a turboprop fan. I love seeing the EMB-120, ATR's, B1900's, and kingairs. To me there's just something special about those massive blades spinning at high RPM, slicing through the air while the turbines sing at a steady whine......

In any event, it seems as if the regional airlines are phasing out their turboprop aircraft. To me this seems unfortunate, and I am left wondering what is causing the elimination of the turboprops. These engines are much more fuel effecient than their turbofan counterparts, thus the turboprop's popularity with low cost regionals where the amount of money you make per mile is quite low (not many passengers going from detroit to boise) creating the necessity for low operating costs.

So why are the regionals turning to jets? Are Turbofan engines become more fuel effecient? Are passenger loads on the regional routes increasing to the point that jets are profitable? Or do the passengers just prefer turbofans over turboprops? I think it would be sad to see all turboprops eliminated, but perhpas with the advent of the power lift VTOL aircraft we will see planes with this type of engine being utilized well into the future......
