717 Future Orders

Sat Dec 12, 1998 8:16 am

Good news on the 717 front.

In this months Aircraft Illustrated:

After many months of speculation, there are new reports that ILFC may now be ready to order around 100 B717s - assuming the new Boeing's survival. Unlike past ILFC orders, Boeing and ILFC would be responsible for jointly marketing the aircraft to lessees - putting Boeing in competition with other aricraft leasing companies.

In last weeks Aviation Weekly:

Aserca Airlines of Venezuela is discussing possible acqusition of the new 717 transport with Boeing. Aserca is looking into acquiring 13-15 717s as a replacement for its DC-9-30 aircraft by 2003.

Just like the newer generation 737's, the 717 could be considered the "New Generation" DC9. After TWA's order, I think we will see an increase in orders (much to the delight of those in Long Beach).

The 717 will do well...NO WAY. TWA may have ordered 50 of them but they also ordered no less than 75 A318/A320's. I'm convinced that the Airbus A318 and maybe the Fokker 100 will beat up the 717. Ha ha ha...I told you, the DC-9's and MD-80's are so ugly, so is the 717.

I guess it could be considered the DC-9NG, but unlike the 737s, it is almost totally different from the DC-9, the only major things that it has in common with the DC-9 are its general arragement and performance.

AA727, I don't think the A320 series is very visually appealing either, doesn't look like a fast plane (lets not make this an argument OK :-). If by beat up, you mean a midair (pretty much the only way planes usually conflict serious damage on each other), I hope that never happens.

Besides the TWA order, I have not heard of other carriers ordering the A318. As posted above, the 717 seems to have many suitors.

I think the 717 will do at least as good as the DC-9. Its just a
matter of time before more airlines start buying it. I think it
will fit in well into Delta's fleet replacing their OLD 737s while
blending in with the MD80s and MD90s in their fleet.
I've flown on 9V-SPK.

I think it will be like the MD-80 - not many airlines bought it until that HUGE AA order. Then a lot decided to buy it.

AA727 I like your answer. I think your right.
CX747 are you sure about your source, I think that is running a little behind, cause a couple of weeks ago "ILFC where interested on the A318, and if not mistaken they are the lunch customer, this was a huge blow to Boeing, and I heard that they are not going to buy ANY 717 at all.
To tell you the truth I think the A318 and the F100 (if they ll start production) will be a total bummer for Boeing. They are going to get "wooped."

AA727 you summed it all up buddy.
