Marrty got most of it right, but I have the full deal
In 1988 Air 2000 formed it's Canadian partner (division?) under the name Air 3000. The Canadian Transportation Board would not allow the name to be used since it was so close to the name Air 2000. So the name Canada 3000 was born. Trouble was they had already painted their first 757 (I have a black and white copy if anyone is interested... a very rare photo) in the A3K name. It hadn't even been ok'd
Anyways, C3 took their new home in Toronto, Canada (27 Fasken Drive to be exact
) and has now expanded to almost all over the world with charter service to Europe, Carribean, Canada, the US and now, South Pacific. They currently have a fleet of B757-200, A320-200's and were the first customer in line to fly the new A330-200.
Air 2000 broke off their ties with Canada 3000 when they were taken under new management. The paintscheme was changed (THANK GOD) and the B767 was added to the original 757 and A320. C3 DEPSERATELY needs a colour change
The CEO, Mr. Kinnear, has taken a lot of "strange" actions with the airline. The Jumpseat policy being one. Not sure about that banana thing though
