Is Air Canada Coach Meal Really This Good?(to US)

Sun Apr 14, 2002 11:53 am

I'm only comparing these to what U.S. airlines serve for meals.(or not serve)

Accoroding to the guy who took these photos, these meals were served on US-to-Canada flights on Air Canada's A320... If their coach class meals are this good, can't imagine what first class is having...

My only experience with Air Canada is a BOS-YUL roundtrip, so the meal service was not that extensive. I took an AC CRJ on 16FEB01 from Boston to Montréal-Dorval departing at 12:40, for a 55 minute flight to YUL. They served us two sandwiches, one a sandwich au jambon (ham sandwich) and a bagel with salmon pâté, a macaroni salad and shortbread cookies. Compare that to a 12:00 United flight I took in August 2000 on United Airlines from Boston to Washington-Dulles. The flying time was about 10 minutes longer and all they gave was a coke and a bag of pretzels. All that on a 737-300  Insane

I don't know about transborder service, but that looks pretty similar to what you get on transatlantic flights with AC.

I don't think you'd see meals like that for a 1hr flight, but I wouldn't be surprised on flights like YYZ-LAX/SFO, which the A320 is used on.

I thought North American airline companies stopped serving meals with metal utensils!

My most recent flight to the USA was with on an AC Boeing 737-200, YYZ-DFW. The flight is about three hours in duration, and one meal was served. I found longer duration AC flights serve chicken with rice.

Bought what u get on a typical YYZ-YVR/YYC route and since AC doesn't differentiate service between domestic and transborder, thats probably correct!

I have had the opportunity to fly (though admittedly not recently) in both Executive and Economy class on Air Canada and was under the impression that both classes receive the same meal. Maybe I am wrong. When Air Canada was serving meals, I think they have stopped recently, I found them to be very good; high quality and tasty.

It looks like what I had on YYZ-SJC pre-911.

Those photos are from the image bank. The pictures were from pre-9/11 days hence metal knives.

There's always a better way to fly...

Just flew Air Canada
YVR-YYZ
YYZ-DCA
DCA-YUL
YUL-YVR

Outbound to Toronto from YVR - utensils were plastic, but YUL to YVR metal fork and spoon, but a plastic knife. How dumb. I'm thinking if I wanted to I could do more damage with a metal fork than a metal knife.

Common sense come into play here.

My Dad flew AC out of BWI several years ago, and I remember he was very impressed with the meal service on the BWI-YYZ sector (In a CRJ I believe)

No matter how good it looks or tastes, no matter what the choice is, no matter how short the flight is, I guarantee you someone on board will ask, "Is that all you have?"
