B727-200

Hi :



Boeing 727-200 is still in use for the long routings (ie : LAX to CVG - 4h16min). Do you think this is a comfortable aircraft for the flight more than 4 hours ?

Not in any way shape or form. It isn't really a comfortable aircraft at all. It is a single aisle plane with no entertainment system.

It entirely depends on what's inside it. A Cessna 152 is the most comfortable plane in the world if it contains one huge armchair. Actually I would say it is more comfortable than more modern planes on one level, that being that the cabin air is recycled more often than in more recent designs, so the air quality is better and you'll arrive feeling more clearheaded and refreshed. I don't care about the inflight entertainment, I tend to read books and ignore the screens anyway, unless there's a really good movie on. As for the single-aisle question, I prefer it cos it means less passengers at baggage claim. Don't know about the seats but that is entirely down to the airline, not the aircraft type.

I flew a 722 back from Chicago to San Diego on the last leg of a flight from St. Petersburg, Russia in the summer of 1996. I'd started out in St. Petersburg, boarding a DC9-40 of SAS to Stockholm, then the next morning on to Copenhagen on an MD-83, also SAS. The plane for the transatlantic flight was a 767-300ER, packed from nosecone to tailcone, and somewhat cramped. Also an SAS flight. So actually, the half-full UAL 722 for the final leg was quite comfortable, never mind that the flight was some 4 hours in length. It is a pretty quiet aircraft, given the location of its engines, and I didn't find the seats to be uncomfortable at all. Given how tired I was after spending 15 hours in planes and airports, I am sure I would have noticed if it had been either loud or uncomfortable. Of course, when it comes down to it, who wouldn't prefer a 757? >;-) But the 722 is a great aircraft, overall.

I guess it all depends. I flew DL 727-200 on the SFO-CVG route few years ago. I thought the cabin interior was really dated. But the flight was comfortable with hot meal service. I wasn't bored because the weather along the way was clear and I spent most of the time admiring the snow covered Rocky Mountains and the great plains.

Of course it is. I absolutely love the 727. That's what I always try to get when I take a flight within the United States, because I love her, and because she will soon be retired because of her age. She does have a certain age, indeed, but she certainly serves well in the airlines. The longest 727 flight I've ever been on was from Dallas to New York LGA with American. That was six years ago.

When I go to Australia in April, the U.S. domestic portion of my trip will be on Delta. The segment from CVG to LAX was a 757 when I booked it, but when I checked with Delta recently, I found out it has been changed to a 727-200. I was delighted. That is one of my favorite planes, and since there is no entertainment system, they won't make me pull down my shade and sit in the dark all the way. I would much rather look out. Now if only they will change my return to an L-1011. It is currently a B767-300, but if they are putting these aircraft on routes intended for the 777, maybe my LAX to CVG flight will be an L-1011 by the time April rolls around.

Oh yes, the Boeing 727-200 is indeed a very comfortable aircraft for the long routes it takes.
It has all the luxary's of home. Blankets and Pillows, no cabin noise, perfect plane. Much better than the extremely loud DC-9-30. I cant sleep on the DC-9.

727's are the greatest...

To me, though, 4 hours in there with no video might make me go a little nuts, unless I had a really good mystery/spy book with me!
