Cathay Back To Zrh?

Wed Apr 17, 2002 11:17 pm

I read somewhere (unfortunatly I don't know anymore where it was) that Cathay wants to resume flights to Zurich. Does anybody have reliable information about this? Is it true?

I think latest when Swiss will (would) join Oneworld, CX will be back in Switzerland (ZRH).

The think which did me surprise was following: The Swiss Travel Trade Magazine "Travel Inside" votes the Travel Star Award. Cathay got rank No. 3 after SQ and EK (TG and MH behind CX) and this even as offline carrier. The votes came from different Travel Agents.
This shows that CX has done an excellent work as offline carrier in Switzerland. But it is still meanless to say, that especially the Australian Market in Switzerland is still handled by SQ and MH. Would say both around 28-30%.

But of course I also would like to know where ZRH has seen this article. I hope another carrier will come back into ZRH... Lets visit ZRH with a regular A340!

I have asked some months back someone I know at CX, and there was no mention at all, that CX might resume their ZRH flights.

I'm a little bit more pessimistic. If Swiss joins oneworld, then I see CX codesharing on the LX flights (which might be increased on the HKG-ZRH routes), instead of adding a second operator to that route.

The route has been suspended, because they were not profitable enough. I don't think, profitability will increase, after Swiss joins oneworld.

But I would simply LOVE to see CX back at ZRH.

As far as I know, CX is already codesharing with LX.

Well, the reason why CX pulled out, I'm not pretty sure if this really was not enough profitable for CX. The load factor was not that bad I think but as I said, the Australian and NZ market where already given away and CX wasn't very competitive. But they where quite popular for Philippines, Taiwan and Hong Kong it self...

Gerardo is probably right but I really loved to see Cathay back.
