Uzbekistan Airways Or Turkmenistan Airlines?

Thu Apr 18, 2002 8:51 pm

I am planning a trip to india this june/july, and have just got back from the travel agents. I was given a couple of quotes on fares and airlines, and HY and T5 were the cheapest to delhi from birmingham.
I have flown on Uzbekistan Airways 3 times before, and have yet to fly on turkemnistan airlines.
My question is this... what airline should i fly on?
I know that i will definately fly on the 757-200- which is my favourite aircraft...

but, i think the question comes down to what engine will give the best performance on take-off. The prices are comparable, and service should, from what i hear, be of the same standard.
Uzbekistan airways have GE powered 757's wheras turkmenistan airlines have RR.
I have heard that people say the RR engines give a better 'ride' during take off. Obviously it all comes down to the pilot and the conditions on the day of travel, but what would you recommend?

dont you think uzbekistan airways has a fantastic livery, i think they have one of the best livery's out there. Their 757's and 767's are definately gorgeous, and i love that picture, its amazing, shame the front gear is not up competely tho, that would have made for a trully awesome picture.

Sorry Ammunition i dont have the answer for you (as i have never been in both of the airlines you have mentioned), but just out of curiosity i ask how come you prefer to fly in a narrow body from Birmingham to Delhi...should be a pretty long flight no?

Hey 757 fans, nothing against the rocket ship...just that i thought it would be more comfortable in a wide body.

On second thought though, i think in narrow bodies you have more chances of getting a window seat Big grin

Well going by your post since you have flown in Uzbekistan before and you like their service you can stick to them, but if u are an adventurer and like to experiment then try the other airline. i guess onward in one and return in the other would cost you much more.

...and to answer ur last question, yes that last shot by Jason is a very neat one and so is the new livery  Big thumbs up

So where do u plan to visit in India?

Cheers
Thomas.

hey, i dont mind travelling on narrow body or wide body, in fact i prefer the narrow bodies, and would love a long haul narrow body plane, that could say do LHR-SYD  Big thumbs up. I love flying, for the sake of flying, and i would never get bored, the turbulance would keep me going during the night and watching people fuss, complain, e.t.c, and during the day the fantastic view.
anyway... the longest i have been in a 757 is about 7h30 mins. from TAS to LHR and BHX. I have to admit, the 757 is an exceptional aircraft. I love everything about it. But i think i do feel a little more safe on planes with more than 2 aircraft, but i guess thats just human nature, its always at the back of my mind.
I think i might stick to uzbekistan as well, but i am booking this evening or tomorrow, and i am going to travel with a friend of mine, so i suppose i will leave the decision on him. I will be in north india mainly, but plan to explore some parts of the himalayas, and a good tour of delhi as well. I want to go to rajasthan and visit the pink city, but i will have to see how it goes.
Does anyone have any info that may influence my decision airlinewise? I would like to try turkmenistan airways, as they have recieved their new 717's, but i am not sure whether they have the capability to fly ashgabat-delhi. its about 3 to 4 hours flying time. But i think with turkmenistan its most likely i will fly 757 on both legs, whereas with uzbekistan airways there is the possibility, i could fly either the 757 or 767 from BHX and maybe even the A310, although i think that is highly unlikely, and from TAS to DEL, it could be an RJ-85, IL-62, 757, A310, 767. I think it will most likely be the 757, or something smaller.

GE engines are not available on the 757. Uzbekistan has PW4000's on their 757s.

i wasnt sure on the GE, but i was sure that they didnt have RR engines, thanks for clarifying that.
but back to my original question, is there any difference between the 757's with the 2 different engines? Is there a better take off with one of them? please help, im booking this afternoon  Smile

Ammunition, just a word of caution from me...you say you are going to tour north India, Let me tell you that there is a state called Gujarat which is still under riots and clases between teh communities theer so steer away from it. More that 500 peopl e have died in riots in the past 1 1/2 months.

The himalays are beautiful, but once again there is also militancy problems in those areas...actually i would suggest you some more options...check your mail  Smile

BTW All the best to get a 757 on both your flights  Big thumbs up

Cheers
