Who Was First In A Terminal In SJC, Which Gates?

Fri Apr 19, 2002 10:42 am

I know American and USAir opened up the new A terminal in 1990 at SJC, but who used which gates exactly? They preassure washed our J-lines the other day, including the stop marks for the nose gear, and now that most of the grime is off the ground, it revealed faded marks for the BAe146, DC10, MD11, 727, and 767 (on gates A2-A6). Which planes once sat at these gates? Any pictures from past A-terminal airlines or aircraft?

US Air had what are now Southwest's gates and AA had the rest. I think if my memory is correct US Air had gates 1 thru 4.

USAir did originally have A1-A4. USAir left SJC around 1991 and American had the whole terminal (A1-A16) widebody aircraft were parked on A2, A5, A7. At times AA did operate its NRT departure from A2.
In the peak days of the old AA hub there were widebody departures from SJC to NRT DFW BOS ORD JFK

The SJC web site puts it this way

"Facilities
Terminal A: 243,800 sq. ft. and 16 gates
Terminal C: 160,000 sq. ft. and 15 gates"
