Connie Kalitta was kicked off the board of directors at KH because he went out and bought two DC-8's in cash. KH Board never agreed with this purchase, Connie was offered an amount of cash and his KH stock, which I hear was valued at $100 MN and told to leave. Subsequently, my sources indicate, he was also forced to sign an exclusionary clause as part of his merger with KH; this exclusionary clause prevented him from operating a Part 121 Cargo Airline for 5 years after leaving the company. Connie basically lost everything except for a few aircraft and some cash, something like a few million. He has been reported as saying it was a $100 MN dollar mistake.
Connie never really had great love for anyone, save for his two poodles and didn't like aircrews. I had seen him fire Captains for dumping fuel and for those not willing to go along with the team. As he got older his drinking got more and more out of control, I seen him more than one time drinking Vodka on the rocks at 9:00am.
Connie Kalitta was an out of control, cut any corners, pay anyone off operation. Yes, I did work for Connie Kalitta, a shrewd businessman by all means but that's where the compliments end.
