Highest Ground Performance

Sun Apr 21, 2002 3:59 am

Which modern airliner (Boeing, Airbus, McDonnell-Douglas, Fokker, Lockheed, etc...) has the best all-around ground performance, in terms of accelleration, braking, cornering, and overall handling? It seems to me that the taller aircraft (ie:747, Concorde) would not handle as well as lower aircraft such as the MD-80 series.

Transferring fuel quickly between wing tanks to improve cornering does NOT count.

Ground performance, accelleration, braking, cornering, overall handling...? For a good answer, let Mario Antretti or Micheal Schumacher have a go at some Boeings and Airbusses...!

I know the Convair 880s and 990s had brakes on the front wheels...I'm thinking that would reduce their stopping distance by quite a bit. The mystery remains, however, which airliners handle best during extreme gound maneuvering.
