NWA first class is average. On thier 757, A320s they are average. on the DC-9's terrible because the plane is not set up to have First and coach. (Galleys, bathrooms, etc.)

I've flown countless red-eyes between SJC and DTW on their A319, they upgrade me to first everytime- they are very very nice about that. The service on the redeye is minimal obviously, but last week I flew first class on them between MSP and LAX on a DC10 (awesome awesome flight), and we had a delicious steak dinner with an ice cream sundae afterwards, beverages, hot towel, the works. I have to hand it to Northwest, their flight attendants are very very attentive. Awesome flight!! Have a blast and enjoy...

Gregg-
After the NW DC-9 interior remodeling, all of the '9s have first-class bathrooms except for the DC-9-10, which is being phased out anyways. Galleys are still in the front of the plane. Not that Adam will have to worry about it, because the flight will most likely be on a 757 (DC-10 if he's lucky).

Adam-
Enjoy NW first to Alaska...expect hot towels, excellent food with dessert, and the NW Variety program. The 757s are actually quite comfortable in First, with pretty good pitch for a narrowbody aircraft. Smart thing to upgrade to first...five hours in back is no fun. Have fun in the 49th state!

How Good Is First Class On Nwa?

Sun Apr 21, 2002 10:21 pm

I feel stupid for asking but...

-What are hot towels?
-Whats NW Variety Program?
-Will The FA be super nice?
-After the flight would I have a chance to see the cockpit? If I asked?

Thanks for your replys!

I thought that NW has replaced their first class with more business class seats.

To have all the NW fans tell it (especially Zeus), the entire configuration and service on ALL of Northwest's planes IS first class.

 Yeah sure

International First Class on the 747-400s/-200s was phased out in favor of an all World Business Class with 60" pitch.

Domestic First Class still exists. DC9 lists a smaller seat pitch than it actually feels, and the seats are wide and fairly comfortable.

I would like to see a new domestic first class seat introduced when the new World Business Class seat comes out next year on the A330. Maybe something with a little leather or winged headrests for domestic first class would be nice.

The 757 First Class is nice and was recently expanded to take up the entire section between the 1st door and 2nd door as most airlines have it, to increase the chance to be upgraded to first class.

Northwest has some of the best flight attendants in the air. I was flying JFK-AMS in WorldBuisness (first basicly) and usualy fligiht attendants are very rude to teens up front (AA/LH living proof) but the NW ones were great! i got playing cards, lots of drinks, they were very polite and i happily recomend them to anyone.

Speaking of NW flight attendants, they are very truthful.

In COACH on a SFO-DTW flight, my brother had the salami sandwhich. It was obviously awful as he had only one bite. When the FAs came around collecting the trash, she said "Didn't like it, huh?", my brother said, "No!", she said "Don't worry, I thought it was awful too."

I thought that was pretty funny.

Hot towels are provided for use in the first class lav to be a little more gentle on your bottom. They will be passed out early in the flight for this purpose. The NW Variety Program is a little talent show-type production the flight attendents put on for the 1st class passengers. Yes, the FAs will be super nice. I'm sure if you ask a flight attendent nicely, you will be able to see the flight deck but wait until after the Variety Program.

NW-Elite.... just going off of what a friend who is a dietician at United said... UA serves more food on their flights than any other airline. (including First Class).

:P

out of Vegas, I've received *nothing* on NW other than peanuts and soda.... i'm not complaining... I even flew F to DTW and got a bagel. When I flew UA F to ORD, I got a full hot breakfast. hum.

anyway, I wouldn't put NW at the top of the list in terms of First Class service, or "service" at all.
NW gets you there, on time. That's all they do.
