SAS Airbus Options

Sun Apr 28, 2002 11:17 pm

Has SAS got any options open for additional airbus aircraft?

What is the possibility that more Airbus aircraft are added to the the existing Airbus fleet?

Yes, they have options for more A330's/A340's.

They were planning to convert them into real orders to replace their remaining 767's, but due to their economic situation that has been put off a few years.

Once the current deliveries are made, their long-haul fleet will consist of 7 A340-300's (the last one should have arrived by now) and 4 A330-300's (the first one arriving in August) plus a handful of 767-300ER's.

A video at scandinavian.net about the new long haul aircraft of SAS says that SAS only ordered 6 a340.
Have they ordered yet another a340?

About the 763, how many will stay in the SAS fleet?

Regards, sas a340.

SAS A340,

Go to http://www.sasflightops.com, there you can see pictures of the 6th and 7th SAS A340 at Toulouse.

The reg's for the 7 A340's are:

No. Reg. Viking name MSN. Delivery Old reg.
1 LN-RKF Godfred 413 20JUL01 SE-REA
2 LN-RKG Gudrod 424 26SEP01 SE-REB
3 OY-KBI Rurik 430 15NOV01
4 OY-KBA Adalstein 435 16NOV01
5 OY-KBM Astrid 450 01FEB02
6 OY-KBC Freydis 467 10APR02
7 OY-KBD Toste 470 APR02

As for how many 767's they will keep for now - I'm not sure, but they shouldn't need more than 2 or 3 unless they plan to open up some new routes.

Does anyone know which bird SAS is using to fly the new 2nd daily EWR-CPH run (the 11:55PM EWR departure?) I will be flying this route on Thursday and was just curious as to the age of the aircraft.

Right, but is it a new A340? Are they expanding the route to 2X due to recent delivery of another 340? Anyone know the Reg? I know, I'm difficult!  Smile

BTW, the 7th A340 (OY-KBD) is being delivered today!

Ariegel,
All SAS A340's are new, they are all less than 9 months old. That's "new" any way you slice it!  Smile

The CPH-EWR seems to be 2x daily on a seasonal basis, since it was flown that way last summer and it has now been reintroduced again. Or perhaps it was temporarily shut down due to 9/11.

The second daily CPH-EWR was cut together with other flights after 9/11 and is now being re-introduced.
