CO: EWR-Florida - Where Are The 757s?

Wed May 01, 2002 7:58 am

CO's website, which shows its planned schedules for next winter, indicates that most of the EWR-FLL and EWR-PBI flights, which until now have been flown primarily by 752s (and a few 753s) will instead be flown by 738s and 739s next winter.......strange, as the flights are always full.

Any ideas why as these markets are growing? And, where will the 757s be flying to instead?

I suppose these changes result from September 11th. While traffic from EWR hasn't fallen off as much as traffic from LGA and JFK have, it's still way down.

FLL is now getting two 757-300s a day.

Have they added frequency? If not, it is simply a market prdiction that traffic levels will drop this coming winter.

Why are we talking winter anyway? It's only hit 100 at my house once this year.

Those schedules are a ways off, the larger aircraft used on EWR-Florida routes always rotate to IAH to serve peak Summer routes (Ie. LAS, LAX, SEA). This has been true since the A-300 days, for the Summer all the 753s are moving to IAH along with several 757-200s in exchange for 737-900s.

They will rotate the 757s back to EWR again by September or October, remember in the Summer demand for NorthEast-Florida travel drops off. Where East-West traffic booms during the Summer.

Yes STT757, but the post was about the propose a/c type for winter 2002/03 when the larger aircraft are used on the "sun" routes. Or did I miss something?

It's not even Summer yet, so to consider Winter schedules "official or final" in April is not accurate.

The schedule for next winter isn't accurate, especially on equipment types. Its usually just placeholders in the system until they actually set the schedule. Its a carry-over from the summer schedule, give it some time, it will be updated.
