Here is a message from Qatar;
Qatar Airways have anounced today in a press conference that they will start flying non-top to the US from Doha in 2004. The first destination will likely be New York and then Qatar Airways will expand to more destination in the US aswell as Canada in late 2004.
The CEO has also said that a decision will be taken soon on the future fleet plan [B777 or A340-500]. The growth and passenger levels have exceeded the airlines expectations and the airline predicts double digit growth for at least the next 8-10 years and so Qatar Airways will likely place a larger order than what was expected earlier. As was indicated earlier Qatar Airways is looking into ordering more A380s over the existing 2 + 2 order.
Qatar Airways has already added a new destination this year (Riyadh) and 3 more will follow (Casablanca, Milan and Frankfurt) Qatar Airways also increased frequecnies and capacity accross the network and has taken an additional A300. The airline will also take delivery of 2 additional A320s and 2 A330s this year.
About European expansion plans, DOH - LHR will go to 11x weekly in June and the airline wants to add 3 more flights to make the flight 2x daily as soon as slots are awarded. Qatar Airways also want to increase both MUC and FRA to a flight daily each from 3x weekly and 4x weekly respectivley. QR will also anounce 2 new European destinations soon.
Qatar Airways will also enter into more codeshare agreements soon and expand thier existing ones (Lufthansa and Malaysia).
Qatar Airways will recieve its first A330-200 in a few days (7th of May 2002). The aircraft will have a major cabin overhaul with details available in this thread http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/786899/.
The first two A330-200s will be dedicated to London Heathrow and then Asia (KUL/CGL/BKK/MNL) will be the next in line to recieve the A330-200s
