Sonic Cruiser:

Thu May 02, 2002 4:31 am

Hey all,
What do you think people who don't care about aviation think about the Sonic Cruiser? Would they refuse to fly in such an "odd" looking plane?
Sorry if this has already been discussed.

I doubt that... People, who doesn't cares about aviation, ussually doesn't cares on what plane they flies also... Except for Russian planes and props maybe, but I believe it is the case for former because of the cold-warish opinion and for latter because of stories they heard.

People will always embrace new technology over time. It's a bit like saying 50 years ago no-one will fly on a jet, a plane with no propellors! These days as you say turboprops are percieved as less safe than jets by passengers, despite the fact they are statistically just as safe.

So yes people will fly in such an "odd" looking plane. My grandmother (89) still thinks 757s look "odd", but she flies em!
I used to love the smell of Jet-A in the morning...

I even have a friend who thought (and this is a well-travelled person) that all the planes she has been on were props (she told me this as we were on an A330-300), confusing the fan-blades with actual propellers. People sure have funny ideas!

So what?

The fan basically is a propeller driven by a turbine shaft. Just a multi-bladed and ducted one. Your friend is quite right about the basics...  Wink/being sarcastic

I would love to fly on the Sonic Cruiser. I just hope it can become reality. Imagine all of the time saved with this plane!

Take Care,
