16 Gates To Be Added At Denver Int'l (DEN)

Thu May 02, 2002 7:53 am

The City is already starting plans to expand the west end of Concourse A which would add 10 jetway gates and 6 commuter gates.
Frontier would lease at least 7 of the gates.

All the details are here:

The 48 ticket counter positions in Terminal East won't be a big deal -- when I was there on Monday, I noted that there was a temporary wall blocking access to a large number of counters, near door 613.

I'm assuming that these counters were where Western Pacific was, since directly beneath it (in Baggage Claim), you can still see the old signage for the WestPac baggage office next to the new Alaska/Horizon baggage office.

Great news for DEN, though... and for F9!

My guess is the new ticket counters are for future airlines and current airline expansion.

They're planning ahead.

Is this the same announcement that was made back in March?? I thought in that case the expansion wasn't as big, or is this something different?

PSU.DTW.SCE,

Back in March, it was just being proposed by the city.

Just recently they decided to go ahead with the expansion. Size of the expansion is same as was planned back in March.

It's just now that it's official and it will be built. Construction will start sometime early next year hopefully.

Wow, they really must need all those new gates since the ones out in B,C and D are usually empty! Whenever I fly into Denver on Delta, that concourse has 3-5 planes parked and not a whole lot going on. Now Atlanta, they are the ones who need more gates and space!

Yeah, the D gates are certainly empty considering they haven't been built yet...

LOL Flashmeister.

I sure do agree with you on that!

Concourse D along with Concourse E and F are planned for the DISTANT future.

Concourse D would be seen by around 2010, and Concourse E and F by 2025 is what they predict.

And regarding Concourse B, it's hardly empty... talk to the boys at United about that.

How many unallocated gates are there on C? I thought that DEN was out of free gates besides common-use gates on A for now...

Flashmeister,

There is only 1 free gate in Denver. And it's on Concourse A.

I also believe that this 1 gate on Concourse A doesn't have a jetway and is a jetway will be installed when needed. Now is needed obviously, but I guess they want to expand Concourse A at the same time for Frontier mainly and other carriers.

That's true, Concourse B is never empty. At least in my experience.

Is that even after Alaska/Horizon has started service (from A39, I believe)?

An interesting note about Denver's concourse B. It's the busiest single concourse in the United States (possibly the world). Don't think Atlanta can say that about it's smaller councourses.
