Aero Continente To Dominican Republic

Fri May 03, 2002 3:32 am

Aero Continente will begin non-stop service to the Dominican Republic in July. N6 will operate 3 flights a week from Miami and Lima. Aero Continente is also redesigining it's MIA schedule:

Currently MIA-GYE-LIM-SCL 3x a week; MIA-LIM-SCL 4x a week.

Effective July MIA-GYE 4x a week, MIA-LIM-SCL 4x a week, MIA-SDQ-LIM-SCL 3x a week.

I remember seeing this on a Public Access channel here in NY. A show called "El show de la noche"

It's ran by Dominicans and they were anouncing this.

Would you happen to know if they will fly from JFK to the island?

The MIA-SDQ route is getting competitive it will be flown by:
Aeromar
Pan Am (soon)
American
Mexicana
and now Aero Continente
This flight will be mainly supported by O&D from MIA to Santo Domingo. SDQ-LIM was already tried by them and it had to be cancelled, I think MIA-PUJ or POP-LIM-SCL would have been a better choice due to the fact that PUJ or POP would cater more to the Peruvian or Chilean tourist and open up more choices from MIA.

Does Aero Continente had no plans to fly to SDQ via Panama City PTY? I heard that here in Panama some weeks ago.

Thanks,

I dont think that would make much sense, they already tried an SDQ-PTY-LIM route and it didn't work . Plus it would saturate the SDQ-PTY route wich Copa already serves and Pan Am soon to start the route themselves.

Chepos, I do agree they should have tried MIA-PUJ. MIA-SDQ is a very, very dense route with plenty of AA A300s, but PUJ definitley lacks service. LanChile services MIA-PUJ 1x/3x a week with A340s (depends on the season). LanPeru has applied for LIM-PUJ-MIA daily. They applied 15 March, but still no word. AA was supposed to open up MIA-PUJ 15Jun02, but that has been put off until at least November.

Yes, Aero Continente the larger peruvian carrier will start the new service to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic using a Boeing 767-200ER. This new route is considered under the expansion through the Americas, including the possibility to start subsidiaries in Argentina, Venezuela and the United States.
