Global Airlines Corp.?

Fri May 03, 2002 5:01 pm

World Airline Fleets News reports that Global Airlines Corp. is planning a June startup from JFK with up to 100 planes!!! They are evaluating the lease of 717, 737NG, 757, 767 or 747 and MD-90....This seems a little bit unlikely to me, too big plans for a startup.....
Has anybody more infos on this airline, do they have a website?

Isn't this the company that also wanted to buy 300 Alliance Air jets...?

Fly-K, it is exactly the same company... in addition to the Alliance Air SLx00 they wanted 20+ Avro RJX forops out of LCY and a North-American base. Forget this "establishment", they will never get into the air.

The LCY- America plan is even weirder than their new fleet plans imo. But I think its another wanna be plan, as it is not feasable.

What happened to the Alliance rejional jets anyway, its been very quiet on that front lately?

This is the same outfit that tried to prevent the sale of TW to AA, and instead offered to buy it themselves. It was largely backed by Carl Icahn, I believe. He was to lose a lucrative TW ticket deal if AA took over (one reason why TW was losing as much revenue as they did). The company was formed precisely to buy the airline (it has no tangible assets), similar to Frank Lorenzo's Texas Air back in the 1980's, which eventually bought and held subsidiaries Eastern Continental, and New York Air.

The idea, I believe, was to sell off certain assets after they all came under one umbrella.

Global Airlines is nothing more than a paper airline. The address for the company is a non-descript warehouse in the NY/NJ area (I can't remember where), the phone number listed was for an adult line, and the president of the company is a tad bit on the shady side when it comes to business. The bid Global made was never even seriously considered for those reasons. Global seems to be more of a publicity driven company than a functing company. Anyone can just incorporate a company and announce plans for the company. Global has as much of a chance ever getting off the ground as I do starting up a successful airline in ATL.

Is this the same Global International that went bankrupt in 1985?
