A318s To Who?

Sat May 04, 2002 11:15 am

According to Airbus.com there are 108 A318s ordered. Can anyone tell me who they are and is this enough to keep the program alive?

I heard some are intended for Air China. However, since Air China is planning on becoming a full Boeing operator, they plan to pass the aircraft to China Eastern.

I read the above somewhere (but I forgot the source)can anyone confirm it?  Smile

Since I am out of the loop at the moment, can anyone say when HP will get the first? I think the 319 is stubby, can't wait to see the 318. Well, I guess I have to.

I believe British Airways has reduced their order from 12 to 6, and ordered 6 A321's instead.
I like British Airways! I'm not sure why, but I do! ;-)

In tuesday's Justplanes.com news release, It reported that HP has delayed the arrival of the first 15 A-318's to 2004-2007, from 2003-2004. This delay also incorporated many more new airbus deliveries, so your guess on when they will enter service now is as good as mine.

Thanks, Spacepope.
It's hell not knowing that you will see the next aircraft type. I think I might just make it to 2004 though.

Rumor has it at Frontier that some of the A318 orders may be turned in to A320 orders for some of their denser routes... this from a friend in the know...

RJ_Delta, BA has only 6 orders left, GATX/Fligthlease has cancelled all 12 and Gecas has cancelled 10 (or changed to bigger Airbuses)

My gut tells me, unless things turn around quickly, the A318 program (like the 717 program) will remain stagnant to say the least. With America West holding the largest order for an airline delaying its order is not a good sign for the program. Plus with the three leasing companies cutting their orders is another bad sign. I wonder where GECAS and ILFC would end up placing those aircraft anyways.

Me thinks HP will eventually replace the remaining 737-200s with all those shiny new CRJ-700/900s that Mesa is bringing.

Frontier has switched engine. GECAS still has 30 on order. ILFC has canceled two, and switched eight to the A320. BA has canceled two, and switched four to the A321. The current total should be 108. Air France will be the first A318 operator sometimes next year.

CAN HP actually use the 40 CRJ700/900 ordered by Mesa? I remember having heard that there are troubles with the unions about the operations and crew salaries. And Mesa is not getting the US Airways large RJ contract they had hoped for.

BTW, DesertJets, you are asking a very good question: where will all those ordered jets been placed by the leasing companies? Just for the records:
* 50+100 EMB170, not a single one placed to date and deliveries start in less then 12 months
* 20 A318 (?) not a single one placed

Same applies to the ordered B737-600, haven´t heard that one has been placedin recent months.
