UAL DC-10 At Msp?

Mon May 06, 2002 12:07 pm

Friday night I was with some friends going out to eat. As we turned in the parking lot, I looked up at saw what at first looked like a UAL 737. But it looked to wide at the altitude it was at. As it turned on its finals back towards MSP I realized it had a full rear mounted engine and that it was a DC-10.

THis was cargo I assume, but I didn't know UA had 10's into MSP for cargo.

That would be a FedEx DC-10. UA retired the last of it's DC-10s several years ago. I must admit to being somewhat surprised that FedEx hasn't painted it yet.

The last DC10's left the fleet in February 2001, some were -30F's that were sold direct to FedEx, and just haven't been repainted yet.

The passenger versions are slated for conversion to MD-10.

Thanks a lot. I didn't think UA was still operating yet, but it sure as hell was in UA colors. You can really find anything on this forum can't you.

Really, Feruary 2001? OK. I guess I refer to the ones already converted. Those were, if I'm not mistaken sold to FM, 4 or 5 years ago. No reason to waste money painting them I guess.

I am surprised as to why it still isn't painted in FedEx colors as well. Then again, it hauls freight in the middle of the night when nobody else can see it, so maybe it isn't that big of a deal...

This wasn't in the middle of the night. It came in around 6:30. I was going to go eat BBQ. It was good BTW. Famous Daves Rocks.
