Spirit's New Look Unveieled

Thu May 09, 2002 8:34 pm

Spirit is unvieling thier new look tomorrow in Ft. Lauderdale, but an early look appeared in today's Miami Herald. Today Spirit, one of only four US airlines to be profitable in 2002, launches new service between Detroit and Denver, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale and Denver, and San Juan and Orlando. The new look is a very modern and surprisingly pleasant. It's a "digital" checkerboard blue design, with fading colours of blue that turn into white. The letter "S" is in a red checkerboard box.

Sounds good, Spririt does need a new look as its old livery was dated. Maybe its a first step in Spirit improving their overall image.

It sort of sounds like the color scheme for Croatia Airlines. But how many Spirit customers are going to know that (no insult intended)?

While I'm not crazy about it for aesthetic reasons, it is distinctive and a major improvement over the old livery. Much better than what a lot of those European charter companies are coming up with these days.

For some reason it reminds me a little of some of the JetBlue tails. Just the checkered look & that it is blue I guess, I know its not that close to it.

It looks very computerized & pixely. Can't say that I'm too fond of it, I like the idea but personally I think it would look better without the strong stairstep design of the dark blue against the white. It seems to jagged. Just my opinion.

N number on the engine cowling? That could be a problem if you have to change the cowling ever. Someone will have to paint the number on the new cowl. It's an unneeded extra step.

WOW!

One of the best liveries flying, no hyperbole here, I really mean it.

Fresh, invigorating, unique!

And I always love blue/gradients of blue.

I don't know, guys...

It doesn't exactly jump out at you, like Frontier, so to speak...

BUT, considering the money they were working with, I'm sure that was the best they could do.

The stair-step thingy is most bothersome.
Oh well, it's better than what they have now.

OUTSTANDING!!!!

To be honest, I expected something gross and stupid. But this is a great improvement over the generic-ness of the previous schemes.

Good job!

Actually, it's quite good.

It's probably the first truly original livery idea since the Sun Country 737-800 livery.  Smile Thank the right person upstairs it's not the wet leaser look that seems to have been all the fad of the last 30 years.

I was wrong; it does NOT look like Croatia Air. But it is very original. Good job Spirit!

Looks like they went for the form meets function school of thought. Too bad it's another boring white airplane to an extent, even though it is a great improvement from the current livery.

I dunno, I must be crazy... I prefer the old white/orange/blue livery of Spirit to this... I think it's hideous.

I don't like the checkeredness on it.

It makes it look pixelated, like a computer.

Reminds me of computers for some reason when I look at it.

I honestly prefer the older livery aswell.

Oh well, maybe I'll get used to this one.

WOW, that is great, i was expecting something like their 10th aniversary scheme, which was colorful but ugly if you ask me. This is something very new and very original. If you ask me, it looks amazing! It's about time someone breaks with tradition!

While the look does also remind me of computers, it is MUCH more professional.

Contratulations to Spirit for looking like a legitimate airline!  Smile

Huge improvement!

Finally something different in the skies now. Yes there's still a lot of white, but it's been done so well. Very classy. No more of those stupid wavy lines that have invaded the British charter carriers!

I guess it is better than what they have now, but it is kind of tacky, very 1980's, and looks more fitting for a commercial bank than for an airline. Classy, it isn't.

I like it a lot. Every scheme looks better in person, so would imagine this will look very good and very noticable parked at the airport. Good job Spirit!

BA- maybe cause you're looking at it on a computer?

I like it. It's original. Not another white plane with a different colored line.

I prefer the old livery, for some reason. Maybe if they had just changed the title font to be a bit more stylized, the old one would still look good.

Very bold & original. A big improvement.

Reminds me a little of Baltia or Croatia.

I think it would have been even better is they brought the dark blue all the way to the nose instead of using white there. It does remind me of pixels too.
