Flying Backwards In BA's Club World

Fri May 10, 2002 10:46 pm

Friday question: I wonder how many BA high paying customers have complained about the new Club World seats that face backwards. And how about those who are stuck in the middle facing the tail? I would not have a problem with it myself, but business class passengers can be a picky lot. Thoughts?

If I may also ask a related question- what's it like?

I think I'd avoid BA if I knew I was going to be in a seat that is traditionally the wrong way round. Why did they configure the cabin in this way, and if you've flown 'backwards' what was your experience like?

I don't think it's a good idea for nervous passengers, after all the reason many people are worried is because flying's so 'unusual'. Turn the seat around and it's even weirder!

It's the safest way to fly - which is why all the seats on the RAF's VC10s and L1011s face backwards!

I've haven't complained...but it's a little annoying since I don't like to face the person opposite me. But, if you use the 'privacy fan' it blocks your outside view. The bed...while pretty much full size..is a bit hard. Also, the food service is ackward because the poor attendants are reaching around, across and over people to serve--some relaxing..some upright..some fully reclined.

All in all I'm sure it will work. But it's a very strange configuration.

My preference has always been their cradle seats.

Fine, in my experience; flew new Club to CPT at Xmas, I had no problems with it-got 4 windows all to myself, and it's a nice way to appreciate the scenery on approach. Most other pax didn't seem to mind-some seemed to like it.

It's novel, and I think part of the idea was to introduce a 'clubby' sort of layout; what I really liked were the vintage photos on the cabin wall-imperial airways a/c in different locations-Rutbah Wells, Helipolis, Basra...those were the days....
