DL cuts first class

Sun Dec 13, 1998 11:02 am

A friend who is a travel agent told me they received a fax from DL that it will no longer configure its planes with a seperate first class section. It will be a combined first/business class. Two cabin service will soon be the norm on all DL operations. The first 767 aircraft are now being retro-fitted with completely new interiors.
Look for the new interiors to start showing up in June.

Yeah, I've heard about that, but that is really going to suck! I usually don't fly to big cities where DL flies, but when I do I usually buy the ticket in cattle then I upgrade to first (frequent flyer miles) Do you think that they are going to do that to their older planes (ex. L1011 and 727's)?
See ya later,

No Camille. From what I hear, it will only be 757's, 767's and any new aircraft ordered.

RE: DL cuts first class INCORRECT

I am a Skymiles Madillion and Crown Room Memeber and this is an incorrect statement on Aviator's part. The 1st class will only be taken out ON INTERNATIONAL configured jets. Also Delta is announcing orders for more 717's, MD-11's, 777's, and 767's.
Veni, vidi, vici.

Well, that will suck too. I usually fly on Delta to London. I am a platinum medallion and I have crown room access too. That is why I get all of the first class free!

Yes, I heard that.
But they'll only do that on three-class configured airplanes. They'll do that on the 767-300ER/400, 777, and the MD-11. Some L-1011's are configured in three classes of service but I don't know if the reconfiguration will be done because, as we have discussed, the L-1011 is going to be phased out soon. I think the 767-200 has two classes of service only, I'm not sure about that one. They won't do that on the MD-88/90, 757 or the 737-300/800 because they only have two classes of service. The 727 and 737-200, let's not talk about them, because those are old and they have only two classes of service (Shuttle 727's are configured in one class only !).
So with the exception of the Shuttle 727's, all aircrafts will have a two-class configuration. That is what I think will happen.

People, let's face it, First class has no more future over the Atlantic.
Most Business classes have a seat pitch of about 48 inch, and they provide a service that equals First of 5 years ago.
Almost all pax. in First are Free's (Airline personnel) or frequent fliers with an upgrade. Delta lost money with First!
It is sad not to be able to say "I fly First Class" anymore, but it will be replaced by a very good Business Class.
BTW: Delta First was not that good, I flew 3 times in it and found it poor in comparison with Cathay, Sabena and Swissair.
CAVIAR ALSO GETS BORING, nouvelle cuisine was not part of the experience on Delta First.
Shiek!

I guess you didnt understand my statement. Obviously if you are a Medallion member you know that Delta only has business class on its intl. flights.
I never mentioned domestic service., Did I??
Please go back and review post.
