AA153 On Tracker Yesterday

Sun May 12, 2002 3:45 am

I've been having fun with using flight tracking software to track flights, especially those that are in my local airspace over Wisconsin. Last night I was outside and saw a widebody at about 12,000 feet..it looked like a 777 to me but it was dark so hard to tell. So I went on the computer and saw that it was AA153 headed for ORD. This flight operates ORD-NRT...it isa AA154 that comes back to ORD, and lands in the morning..this was 11pm CST. The flight tracker said that it had departed ORD at 11:16am, and arrived ORD 11:25pm. Then at AA.com I noticed that the flight had been cancelled. I also compared the info on many other flight tracking websites and they were all the same...departed ORD...arrived ORD...any thoughts on what happened to this flight? Why was it showing that it took off out of ORD, only to land at ORD 12 hours later?

How did you find out it was AA 154? I've been wondering how to identify overflying planes for a while now.

I use the flight tracker software from flytecomm.com
You can zoom in over your local area and all of the flights are displayed showing flight #, altitude, dep/arr cities and airspeed. Then you can tag these flights and watch them. The software is especially fun when used in combination with real audio live ATC at JFK, ORD, etc. Last night it was easy to identify AA153 because there were no other commercial flights over my area...and even if there were, I only see a 777 or 747 once in a while on the way in from Anchorage to ORD...or from NRT to ORD. You can download a 2 week trial of the software for free.

According to www.narita-airport.or.jp Departure & Arrival information, AA 154 NRT to ORD had been cancelled. I have some fun too looking at www.flightview.com but haven't been impressed with the results. It showed it "in-flight" when it was actually cancelled.

Check out today's AA 153 ORD to NRT...flight is delayed to 5:00pm today. Original departure should be around noon.

I wonder if anyone can provide some input as to what exactly happened to these flights AA154 and 153...curious!!!

Anyone?

Thanks for the input frequentflyer 5...it is kind of a small mystery...if it had been AA154 I would have assumed that it was the normal NRT-ORD flight, arriving very very late...but instead it was AA153....which was supposed to have taken off 12 hours earlier for NRT.....sometimes there are mistakes on the flight tracker...but since I physically saw the aircraft i'm more curious.
