Qatar Airways European update
London Heathorw (LHR) - Qatar Airways will increase thier flights from 9x weekly to 11x weekly starting June. QR is pushing hard for more slots so that they can serve LHR twice daily. The A330-200 will be used daily to LHR starting from May 24.
Frankfurt (FRA) - Qatar Airways will start 4x weekly service to FRA starting in June 13 with the A300-600R. QR will also codeshare with LH to FRA from MUC 3x weekly. Qatar Airways has said that they are awaiting approval from the German authorities to increase flights to daily.
Munich (MUC) - Munich is served 3x weekly with the A300-600R. QR want to increase frequencies to Munich from 3x weekly to daily service, they are also awaiting approval from the German Government. They will probably fly 4x weekly because they already have rights for 4x weekly flights.
Paris (CDG) - Paris has traditionally been a sleepy route for Qatar Airways but it has been improving the past few months. Qatar Airways will also increase frequecnies to Paris, probably to 4x weekly from 2x weekly, this is because QR want to improve connection possibilities for flights to Asia. No set date has been anounced.
Milan (MXP) - QR will fly to Milan with the A300-600R starting in June 16 with 4x weekly frequencies. QR expects the route to be succesful even though GF had a rough time on the route. QR are banking on better connections, increased tourism to Italy and of course the Italian firms which have set up / or in the process of setting up factories in Qatar. One example is Augusta which will assemble Helicopters in Qatar as well as building a large maintenance complex here.
There is no news on the two mystery additions to Europe, but recently the QR PR team keep commenting on how the good response QR got from the Swiss market so ZRH is getting even more likely. BTW In the future QR plan to serve most of Europe's major cities.
The second A330-200 that will be delivered on 19th July 2002 will be rotated on the European destination above during the summer. Eventually all of the destinations above will be served with A330-200s.
