WestJet's 737-800 Pics?

Sat May 18, 2002 5:55 am

Does anyone have pictures of the 738's that Westjet leased from Delta for the summer. they're probably gonna be used for the YYZ-YYC, YYZ-YEG runs...

The rumour is they look like the other WJ planes but the bottom half is Delta livery... sounds pretty nice,
WJ/Delta Hybrid

YYC is supposed to see one today...

We'll probably be seeing one in YYZ or YHM sometime next week... look out spotters!

Last I heard they would be in basic Delta colours with westjet titles.

With the Royal/C3, Canadian Old/New, and Canadian/Air Canada hybrids, I think it would be nice to see another mismatched scheme up here!  Smile

My vote's for Wavy Gravy Westjet!
Someday, we'll look back at this, laugh nervously, and then change the subject.

Registration numbers should be N3739P and N3740C. Ships 3739 and 3740, and the reason they're so roomy is that they are in the Delta Shuttle configuration... all coach at 36 inch pitch.

Hope you guys enjoy flying on them this summer..... make sure you take your camera to the airport tomorrow, Fallingeese. I'm interested to see what these birds look like.

These 738 for Westjet won't carry Canadian registrations will they? It's a shame I won't get to fly on one, they sound very confortable.

Why is Delta leasing out Shuttle 738s?? Don't need them for the summer?

Also, why is WestJet getting them from Delta with the unique seating? I'm sure there are other 738s out there with more appropriate seating available?

anyone know? Seems like a bizzare arrangement.

Time It Takes To Repaint A 737?

Sun May 19, 2002 2:29 pm

eh well its a pretty nice question you asked TNNH,.
I guess one of the reason is that its a fellow carrier based in North America so its easier to get the planes rather than lease them from like Qantas which is 16000km away.
And I think the leasing price may of been cheaper thus enabling westjet to snag the two off of Delta Shuttle without much problem.

They will be used for only 7 months its just to fill the most heavily used routes until more -700s arrive. Looks like their -700 orders are way down the list of all the others that needs to be built and delivered.

Oh Mark: Ya sure if it is sitting outside tomorrow I'll snag a couple shots of it provided the sun is good. Glad I dont have to work tomorrow  Smile I worked today and just got back at 1130pm.
The second one will probably come like tomorrow or monday.. I just hope so! fingers are crossed!!!!
oh ya, Martin Air starts flying in on Mondays AMS-YEG-YYC-AMS route.
Also a hottie to snag.  Big thumbs up

YYC is starting to look like a true canadian Airport. Big grin

Hmm, the weather here is bad, in fact its worse than yesterday.

Shucks, I wont be going to YYC today because it is going to rain all day.
Also to top it off it looks like Rwy 16 is in use so It will be hard for me to spot and shoot picts of planes landing on 16 if say the other 800 arrives.

I hope tomorrow will be better.

The reason that they are getting delta airplanes is because Delta is the only other carrier in NA that has the exact same options for its 737NG's as WJ. All of the systems and features are the same, and as such very little extra training was required. the 737-800 is not certified to fly in Canada hence the us registration, and all pilots signed an FAA waver permitting them to fly the airplane.

Alright, Slawko said it well and it definetly makes sense.
American also has -800s but their configuration is different and it is not what Westjet had preferred. Same with ATA but it would be sweet to see winglet -800s with hybrid liverys.. Drool!

Anybody know what the exact version designation the leased 800s are?
the 700s for instance are all 76N.

Westjet 737-700 crews who have taken the -800 conversion course and signed the FAA documentation fly the -800's at WJ

I got some pictures sent to me through the company E-mail of the new paint scheme, courtesy of my dad. I uploaded a pic onto airliners.net but it's awaiting approval. check for it in a couple of days.

It looks nice though, substantially longer than the 700, seems like a lot of white space between the tail, WJ logo, and nose.

The Tail and top portion of the plane is white with the WestJet logo and the bottom is silver, I don't know if it's paint or just polished metal. The engine have the traditional Delta colours. Our Engines are white.

The funniest thing about it is that it has the American registration just above the rear door and the typical WestJet "proudly Canadian" with the Canada flag right beside it..

Unfortunately the scan quality is not acceptable for inclusion in the database(along with the fact that the nose is cut-off) but everyone wants to see a shot at least, so here's the highly anticipated link : WestJet B737-832

Time It Takes To Repaint A 737?

Mon May 20, 2002 12:28 pm

Damm, Very tight!

Mark I was at the Airport today and I just happen to go by the WEstJet hangar and guess what?!~!

Two of its 3 hangar doors/gates were open full. But inside as I peered with my binocs I did not see the -800.
However the left most hangar bay had its door closed.. I smell something..  Smile

It is inside those darn doors. The second one has not arrived yet but I will go out again tomorrow morning to see if I can get any luck. Martinair will also fly in from YEG later on the day. The weather better be good or else! "shakes fist"

When I was there today, the weather was nice but it got ugly quickly. I got barely enough sun to snap pictures of the 744 that took off on 16. Regardless it was marvelous..
Allegro Air of Mexico also came today, didnt know they had charter serivces here throughout May, but I missed it  Sad

But Why on earth would it make a right turn (West) if its going to LHR?
Shouldnt it turn Left (East) ?
It would save them some fuel and time as well as operating cost. Everytime I see it takeoff on 16, it turned right(west) and then later turned around again(north) to fly parallel to the airport. A pretty weird procedure if you ask me.

Otherwise,: earlier in the day there was a super amazing plane that flew over calgary at FL310. Ya wouldnt belive it as it was EMIRATES Flight 777, which was a B773!!! Unbelivable, I must say, the plane looked real long even from the ground while it was cruising, and left quite a contrail. 5 minutes later a SAS A340 crisscrossed the 773's path and that was nice too. Spotted its distinct red engines thru my binocs.

If I had seen you get out of your car while I was riding on the bus at airport today, I woulda point-and-laughed at you!! Big grin but I didnt'..

D8King: I got a 7-15x25 zoom binocs.. They are one of those compact types thou unfortuneatly limiting the amount of area I see. I bought this from Canadian Tire for 100 dollars. It is a Bushnell.

I plan on upgrading to a bigger better and more powerful binocs in the future.

I was at YYC today and it was a dissapointing and a Boring trip.
The 738 that was here was hidden behind the hangar doors and the second one never came. Worse yet the first one already here hasn't even done a test flight yet! So much for attempting to see it as I will have to wait till Saturday morning. A 6 hour waste of time for me sadly.

Just incase people were wondering the first few flights, and possibly days in YYZ, as it stands right now, looks like it will be operated with the 700's, as there are some problems getting the paper work straightened out to have the 800's flying sched, I'll let ya know if I here anything else.
