Any information on their business class on their new A340 ? Is it like the "older" Crown Class on their A310 ?

Yes, it's a nonstop service to be operated five times weekly.

Will these Airbus A340s be brand new or second hand?

They are second hand. They took the rather unpopular A340-200's not the 3's. They also evaluated taking over 2 of CO's 777's, but their were performance problems with them since AMM airport is quite elevated and issues with summer heat since they would have to take a penalty if an engine failed. The NYC flight leaves in the late morning rather than nightime departures from DXB or other hot destinations. Shame really

EK has not published the schedules yet. I think the flights will leave after 0800 to help with connections from Asia.

Also the flight to JFK leaves AMM at 1100 and arrives in JFK at 1640. The return flight leaves at 2200 arriving in AMM the next afternoon at 1550. All nonstop using the A340.

Yet another very flattering livery for the A340 - after LAN, China Airlines, SAS, SIA. I've seen the Jordanian government A340 at LHR and it's a fine looking aircraft.

A big loser here will be SNN airport, through which RJ routes flights to JFK. Thankfully, flights to DTW and ORD will continue, but JFK will be a loss.

AMM BKK will be three A340 flights from 01Aug on Thursday/Friday and
Monday. The Thursday flight will be a turn around while on Fri and Mon
the flights will operate AMM BKK CGK (Jakarta) and back.

Why would they they have taken over 2 CO 777's? I thought CO just had 2 new 777's delivered.

The A340-200s are the two ex AirLib birds that were recently returned (c/n 38 & 43 from memory).

CO was looking at parking 2 777 (ship 1/2) right before Heavy D checks. The new ships 17/18 were going to come in to replace them. I don't know what the final decision was in the end.

BTW, China Airlines is not happy with the A340's. They are having to take an unanticipated weight penalty on their JFK flights during the winter months.

I still don't understand. I thought CO had a shortage of widebodies. If they were to park 2, how would that leave room for expansion in the future?

The "shortage" that is talked about has only been on this forum as far as I can see. Gordon Bethune has stated that they actually have too many widebodies. If they had a shortage of widebodies they probably would have kept the 10's

Interesting, but what will happen to the AMM-AMS-JFK route? This route is currently operated with the A310-300. Will Jordanian stop this route once their A340-200's start the non-stop flights?
