Which Airline/route To EZE Or Cairns

Tue May 21, 2002 5:46 am

I plan to travel to either EZE or possibly Cairns to do so major hour building in the near future.I don't have any set dates but would most likely go when flight prices are at there least expensive. Could anyone come up with some suggestions on who to fly with and why? I don't mind stopping numerous times en-route and would ideally like to fit a long-haul airbus in somewhere on both routes. I roughly know which airlines go where etc I would just like to know about the quality of service and planes flown on the routes.
I can depart from any UK airport.

Many thanks in advance

 Big thumbs up

I quite fancy a 773 if one could be fitted in on the Cairns trip?

To EZE, try Iberia as they have many flights to EZE; one of the 2 flights is an A340-300 (the other a 747 I think). From the UK, you will of course fly via Madrid. IB has very competitive fares on this route......if your budget permits, look into a non-published business class fare that is available through travel agents and you may be suprised how affordable it can be. Also, KLM has better fares out of the UK than it does out of AMS, look at them, but that does not give you an Airbus or 773 flight. Finally, Varig flies out of LHR to Sao Paolo and Rio, with connections on to Buenos Aires, again, no 773 or Airbus long-haul, but Star alliance miles can be valuable and it may be your last long-haul trip on the MD11.

Qantas has good fares out of LHR to Australia, again with some attractive business class rates if its in your budget; QF also has packages that allow certain inland flights "for free" depending on your itinerary (a chance to fly on the new QF 738 is possible).......not a creative alternative, but an effecient one. SQ flies direct to Cairns via SIN, not sure of the equipment these days but the LHR-SIN leg will be a 744. You may want to look at carriers flying into Brisbane to get your shot at a 773 and then purchase a seperate ticket up to Cairns.......as Thai, Cathay and Malayasian all have 773s this could be your chance for atleast one segment. Emeriates is also an idea, via Dubai, on to Australia - not direct to Cairns but with a bit of work and a few stopovers it could work out. Lastly, Lauda Air via Vienna has some great fares (nonpublished) out of the UK, via Vienna, to Australia, not a 773 but a 772 instead (does almost count?)

In any case, have a wonderful trip.........I have been to both places and both are wonderful - I am sure you will have fun.

I hit the send button too soon - Varig service is quite good in all classes, their business class is very good. Iberia is hit or miss, but getting better I think. KLM is not what is used to be, adequate in my opinion, and not much more - shame.

I have enjoyed my flights on QF and found their service to very good with unique style.....friendly and informal but very correct. I have been on Singapore and Thai, and their service is very good and very different......some people love it, others hate it, I appreciated the level of service but prefer the Austalian/US approach......so personal.

Another idea, Air New Zealand, which has excellent inflight service to Cairns, and maybe a few stops in the South Pacific......Tahiti and Fiji are worth a look and some of NZ's fares allow stopovers. Its also kind of unique to work your way accross the pacific on 767s!

I tried to get a fare on Malaysian to EZE as I know they fly there via KUL just to see how much it would cost, that would be one great trip  Big thumbs up

Are you under 26 or a full-time student? If so, STA Travel (sta.co.uk) have a BA fare to EZE for 478 pounds; given this is a non-stop flight from LHR, this is pretty good.

Otherwise, Expedia (expedia.co.uk) are offering a fare of 425 pounds (TOTAL, return) with Alitalia via Milan.

Both flights depart pretty soon (as in June-July); bear in mind this is winter in Argentina, and their winter is a bit like the UK one, perhaps sunnier though.

Very cheap at the moment, I would pack your bags pretty soon, as fares to Argentina can be quite expensive.

Sorry, can't advise on Cairns, although perhaps you could get a deal with Austravel, they are usually the best for UK-Oz flights.

This is all based on cheapness, not aircraft type.

Cheers!

Maybe EZE-MIA-SFO (UA 777) then SFO-SYD (UA 744), then SYD-CNS (QF). Just a suggestion.

Who are you trying to earn miles with?

If star-alliance you can go LHR-LAX-AKL-CNS. long route, lots of miles.

Unfortuantely, I don't think Singapore Airlines flies to Cairns. I'll check again tomorrow morning.

I believe MAS, SIA don't fly into Cairns anymore. But MAS still operate into EZE. They just resumed their service on May 1, 2002 I think. Then thing is, it takes about 24 hours to get from KUL to EZE and a good 13 hours from LHR to KUL! You are really taking a really long route if you ask me!

You could do EZY to Madrid then catch their (Lan's) A340 from there to SCL.

This kind of crazy stuff is going to be expensive you know...but have fun anyway!
