Icelandair

Sun Sep 19, 1999 9:13 am

I will be travelling this summer to London, and I have never flown Icelandair. I have good reviews about their service, and their prices, ooh, très bien. Cost is not an issue, and neither is the layover in Rekjavik, so what I'm asking is: Is Icelandair's service any good? I have, and will pay BA, VS, AA, UA, etc. prices if Icelandair's service is not good. From the outside their 757s look nice and wll taken care of.

I don't care about the price, it's the service. I can pay US$800, and get treated well, or I can pay US$400, and get treated like crap. I personally prefer the former. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have never flown them (sorry) but I recently saw one of their 757's land at BOS and it was a nice looking plane. Really clean.

I wouldnt hesitate taking them
You can ALWAYS fly the big birds any time

But this is something you can brag about

(unless they suck and I just dont know what I'm talking about)

But I would try them

hey There,
Just a quick note my friend just returned from an european tour and she took Icelndair to and from halifax ns. She took that airline because the price was good but when she got on she wished she had to pay the extra. She told me that the crew were totally rude and the service with the ground agents was horrid. Then when she had a 2 hour layover in reykjavik she ended up there for over 12 hours. The airline would not put the passengers up in a hotel for the time and were not going out of their way to help any certain passenger! When my friend landed in London she was so happy that she had to change airlines. She took aer lingus and was totally pleased with their service and their frendily cain crew. but the only complaint was that Aer Lingus had a little to much green on thier flights that didn't match up all that well.
I hope that this little bit of info will help you in anyway!

I had the pleasure of flying Icelandair back in 1993. Gee how the time flies! Anyway back then I flew GOT-KEF and KEF-CPH on the carrier (757 and 737-400 equipment respectively) Couldn't fault the service on either sector and was very pleased with the attention to safety demonstrated by the cabin crew. Meals were hot and from memory as good as any international ecomony fare. Sorry to hear someone had a bad experience but as any frequent flier knows you can get a bad crew on the best airlines. It really boils down to the personalities of the crew on the day. My suggestion is go with Icelandair and I sincerely hope you are welcomed with the truly warm spirit of the Icelanders who from my experience are so friendly and kind.
Michael.

My brother in law flew Icelandair about six months ago from Halifax to London via Reykjavik. I think it was Halifax, but that doesn't really matter. He wished he had not chosen Icelandair. The crew were extremely rude and stand offish. Like airman99o's friend the stopover in Reykjavik should have been a couple of hours, but turned into eight hours. The food was good apparently. He thought it would be fun to try Icelandair, as opposed to the direct trans Atlantic route. To use his words "That's the sort of fun I can do without" Until he flew Icelandair, I was under the impression they were pretty good. Maybe their standards have slipped recently.

I was lucky to fly Icelandair last May from Halifax to Keflavik (to visit my Dad). I flew on their 737-400. When I got on the plane I found out that my seat was taken. An old but friendly flight attendant gave me another seat. But to make this part short I got moved THREE times and than I had to seat in the centre aisle seat. My original seat was supposed to be by a window.   I was so mad!

Than we had some kind of technical difficulties. So we had to wait more than an hour IN THE AIRPLANE (talk about a bad experience).
When we finally took off, they served us our meal which was a bit cold cause of the tech. difficulties. If you like the info that the pilot gives, GOOD LUCk! On my trip both pilots spoke very bad english. Anyways, when we arrived we were two hours late.

My brother had the same trip but when he was returning he got upgraded to their Saga class (1st class) for free because they gave his sit away to someone. He told me that the service was excellent.
Here is some good news, all of the flight attendants were very friendly on my trip as well as my brother's.

Hello
I have no problem to recommend Icelandair. Their service is very good.
If flying their Saga class I'm shure you'll be very much taken care of.
Icelandair have a very good reputation on their flights from Norway.

Enjoy !

Thanks for the info, but due to the mixed results of the posts, I'll continue to do some more research. For anyone who has more info I can be e-mailed at
