Alianza Summa/Avianca B767-300

Wed May 22, 2002 4:12 am

Didn't even know about this until I saw (and shot) the aircraft this morning.
Any know more about this and can explain the story behind Alianza Summa.

It's the alliance between Aces and Avianca/SAM.
(I posted it on Skyone today and asked if anyone has seen it yet)
I'm not sure if it will be a full merger eventually.

If you read spanish, you can find more information about the Avianca / Aces alliance:

http://www.summa.aero/

I'm taking Avianca in July from JFK to BOG, and SAM from BOG to ADZ. I can't wait!

To the US, this is what the alliance means:

Avianca will operate LAX-MEX-BOG 4x a week, as usual.
Avianca will operate MIA-BAQ and JFK-BOG daily, as usual.
Avianca will operate JFK-MDE 2x a week, as usual.
Avianca will operate MIA-BOG 3x daily; formerly it was 2x daily on Avianca and 1x daily on Aces.

Aces will operate MIA-CTG daily, formerly Avianca daily.
Aces will operate MIA-MDE daily, as usual
Aces will operate MIA-CLO daily, before 9.11, this was operated daily by Avianca.

The alliance started Monday.

So, would this be the new c/s for Avianca?.....will these colors be on all a/c, or it´s just a promo aircraft?

Avianca and Aces will continue to operate under their own brand identities. The plan is to have Grupo Summa as the holding company of both carriers in order to nourish them back to profitability under a plan of mutual respect and cooperation. These kind of agreements really work, especially for the airlines of Latin America, which not only have to battle it out with the American giants but also have to work under extremely difficult and adverse situations like it is so many times the case.

One only has to look at the examples set forth by Grupo Taca or Cintra, holding company of AeroMexico and Mexicana, to see what can be achived.

Like I stated before, each company will continue to operate under its own brand identity. The planes will not undergo any modification, except for a sticker that will sport the name of the alliance (like the skyteam members do) and both airlines will continue to offer their own products and services.

Well, Alianza Summa have already painted a MD-83, 757-200, A320, ATR-42 and 767-200 in the Alianza Summa colors. This is just a promotion of the Alliance, they don´t going to paint all the Avianca aircraft with that colors.

Hope to get the Md-83 in Panama City..

Cheers,

Well, according to 2 of Colombia's main newspapers, El Tiempo and El Colombiano, all the planes will be repainted:

I really hope this alliance works well for these 3 Colombian carrier ,the Colombia civil aviation industry is going through a crisis like the country itself. Avianca has a long and proud history so Im sure it will battle it out along with Aces and SAM.
