Jetstream 41 Question

Thu May 23, 2002 9:39 am

Is a flight attendant required on a Jetstream 41? From what I remember, I thought a FA was required on any aircraft that seats over 19 or 20 passengers. Is this not so anymore and if not, why?

Thanks!

Yes a F/A is required if the aircraft is configured in the standard layout.

So if they do have a flight attendant, is there any type of beverage service? The plane looks so small that it seems to be, you really couldn't even stand up in it.

Thanks for the answers!

No, shes not there to serve you, shes there for your safety.

Planes with less than 20 seats don't require a F/A. Some airlines still fly J-31s and such with a F/A though but most don't. Aircraft with 20-50 seats require 1 F/A. Most of the time I got quite nice (beverage/snack) service on smaller airplanes, like J-41, Brasilia and Saab 340. But I believe they only dispatch smaller F/A's (me being 6 ft 4 wouldn't qualify) so they hardly have to duck.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

I know "Lindy" that she is primarily there for my safety, as are all flight attendants. That is what their main purpose is, but I was just curious if they also serve drinks and snacks on such a small airplane. That was what I was trying to find out.

Thanks for all this feedback and answers!

Beverage service is available on the Trans States J41s out of St. Louis depending on enroute weather conditions and time of day. I fly the 5:15 PM departure to Springfield, IL twice a week and we get full beverage service unless it's bumpy in-flight. At other "non-meal" times of the day there is no service. Not bad for a flight that only takes about 20 minutes if you ask me.

Yes the F/A is required by US FAR's. And we do have rather tall F/A's at ACA who do bid the J41 for some reason. We have F/A's that is all they will work. They don't like the CRJ/FRJ for some reason I wonder if it could be because of the fact that there are more than 29 people onboard and they have to do more work. And as far as the loo on the J41 there is no reason that we should even have one on there. The F/A jumpseat is right there at the door to the loo and as well as the storage closet for the snacks.

ugh, I hate the J32s! I"m glad they're finally gone  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

since when has TSA offered any sort of inflight services on their J41s?? this is news, as I've flown them a few times from Joplin, Mo to STL and got nada...

I've been on an ACA J41 recently, from JFK to IAD and got a full service (and the can!) :P

Well you get service on an ACA flight because we are one of the best non-regional airlines out there. We are expanding majorly and always looking at what we can do to improve service. Also it is a ,little off topic but with AWAC starting the IAD-ATL service due to our no competition clause with DL. Otherwise we would be back on the ATL run again.
