Man, man, man. This is not good. The Chinese airline industry has been in the news quite a few times this month.
Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!

Here's what I found...

"TAIPEI (Reuters) - A China Airlines Boeing 747-200 is believed to have crashed into the sea on Saturday after it went missing en route from Taiwan to Hong Kong, airport and airline officials said.

"It disappeared from the radar. Judging from the situation, it crashed into the sea," airport spokesman Wei Sheng-chih told Reuters by telephone."

We all hope for the best.
But a crash landing in sea is not very nice.
Saw it ounces with that hijacked plane that had to make an emergency landing in the sea.

Not very well to be kept under control.

I am crossing my fingers for those pax.

Just reading on BBC, that it is actually a Boeing 747-400.
However, on BBC News 24 (TV) it is still reported as a Boeing 747-200...

The ATC people say that the plane has disappeared off the screen but they don't say it was descending rapidly. What could that mean?  Sad

If it did crash, which seems more likely now with all the reports, what could've happened? Any theories? What was the weather like on the flight path?

The OAG lists the flight CI 611 as a B747-400 flight. But that´s not too interesting at the moment, hopefully they can recover survivors.

It has been reported on BBC that China Airlines has crashed into the ocean. This was announced a few minutes ago by the Taiwanese Prime Minister.

Helicopters have spotted oil leaks and life jackets. The aircraft in question is a Boeing 747-200.

A very sad day for aviation industry.

CNN just said that 254 and 19 crew were on the plane.
This crash was the 19 in CI history (3 of them 747´s)
Last CI-crash was happened Mandarin MD-11 @ Hong kong travelling on the same high-density route.
Thought that things had improved since.
What a disastrous record !

My sympathies to all the victims relatives and friends.

Terrible news - I've flown that route more enough times on China Airlines.
If it's true it came down near Penghu (Makung) it should have been at 20000 feet plus at that point. Terrible.

The seatbelt sign should of been off at that time, and the Flight Attendants would of been serving out beverages and snacks. It does not look good.

This is gonne really damage China Airlines for good.

I saw that their were around 200 or more Pax on baord with 19 crew members.
