The New Delta Livery Is Maturing Quite Nicely

Dontcha think?

I think the scheme is represented best on the 762.

It just has the perfect proportions of the paint ingredients.

Delta's Md-11's look rather sharp in the new livery I must say.

Indeed it is.

I think the 767-200 does look pretty good in the new colors. But really, just about everything Delta flies except the MD-88/MD-90 looks outstanding in the new colors, and I only left out the MD-88/90 because I think they are just not very sleek or attractive looking no matter how you paint them.

Last I heard Delta was down to about 100 airplanes painted in the Widget scheme and about 280 airplanes in the newest scheme, with the rest in the interim colors. Better get those pictures of the Widget scheme while you can. It's supposed to be gone by mid-2003.

I also heard the 777s will be pulled off the line one by one this winter to be painted as well. Haven't confirmed that though. That would be sort of a shame, since the 777 in the interim colors is in my opinion the best airplane/livery combination there is.

The Landor livery is definitely controversial, but it achieved its purpose: when you see one of those tails, you know it's Delta. There's no mistaking it for anything else.

I think the MD-11 looks wicked & sinister in the old livery.  Big thumbs up

I am trying to keep track of the livery switchover: mainly by watching the photographs posted on this site.

I have a fleet count of 579 [B732 N377DL - in new livery - for Express was just returned from the desert].

Others may correct me!! All correct info gladly received.

In new livery I have 199 aircraft, [34%] plus three in special schemes: 2 x Olympics and one Powerpuff.

In mid livery, 221 [38%].

In old livery, 150 [28%].

Includes 51 x 727s [7 new, 37 mid & 7 old] and 6 x 733 [all mid livery]which will retire; so on retirement that makes 7 old & 43 mid livery which will not be repainted; AND 7 new livery which will disappear.

Would it be a clver idea for Delta to keep one widget scheme as a "retro" jet?

If so - which is the aircraft type which would best represent the livery - either by history or because it looks good!!

QFATWA,

There are exact numbers on Delta's corporate intranet which cannot be posted here, but I can say that what I said in my previous post was fairly accurate.

Also, as of 1/1/02, there were no plans to repaint Ship 102 (B767-200 "The Spirit of Delta") in the Colors in Motion livery. Ship 102 is due for a visit to PAE later this year to be repainted, and one informed person has told me that it will simply be a repaint of the Widget livery, while another has informed me more recently that Delta has changed their mind and decided to repaint it in the newest livery. The second opinion makes sense, since a touchup of the current paint on the airplane could simply be done at ATL TOC. If anything, I'd say that airplane was the best candidate to be in a "retro" kind of paint scheme.

In all honesty, though, with management working so hard to rebrand the company and change the look altogether, there's no point in keeping one airplane as a "retro jet" so soon after the transition, no matter how classic or historic the Widget livery may be. Maybe in 10 or 15 years.

Now that it's been around a while..I see why people don't like it.
It looks pretty amateurish.

Somehow it looks incomplete...

Oh well.

i think the spirit would look awsome in the newest rendition... or how about do a star alliance looking image..... Widget up front... then the middle livery, and a modified verison of the olympic scheme on the back with the ribbon tail

of course im being funny... but when i see ship 102 its kinda depressing as her paint is showing the age

They'll probably do ship 102 in the newest livery with gold trim surrounding the widget and perhaps the name "Delta" on the front of the aircraft. In addition, the words "The Spirit Of Delta" painted in fancy script.

Greg, you don't like the 'wet-lease' look of the new livery?

Seriously, maybe for a little retro, give 102 the newest livery, but with the old Delta titles on the front, with 'spirit of' next to it in the new font.

Great to hear they plan to keep "The Spirt Of..." on the plane.. would've sucked if they went and, when it was repainted, forgot to repaint that part.

To me, the new livery looks really good on the CRJ-700, the 328Jet and the ATR-72.
Now, don't get me wrong, it looks good on most of the Delta fleet, now that the livery has grown on me. Like everyone else, I'm curious about what they'll do with "The Spirit of Delta".

Hkg82:

I agree about that "wicked and sinister" look on those MD-11s. I thought it was a little strange to place human characteristics on inanimate objects, but it just jumps out at me. Here are some others:

This one just seems so happy and excited. I believe it skips down the runway rather than taxis...
