China Southern 747-200 W/ Winglets?

Tue May 28, 2002 8:42 am

Ok, Puget Sound spotters and trackers, help me out here. As of 7PM last night, there is a China Southern 747-200 (or even 100, only three upper deck windows) sitting at Boeing field w/ winglets. I was driving on I-5, so couldn't really do to much rubber necking, but does anybody know what's up? Or is senility setting in and I can't tell a 400 from a 200 anymore?

Thanks
Duane

That would be a B747-400F. That aircraft has the short top like the
B747-200 and probably only has 3 windows because it is a Freighter
hence, not a lot of need for extra seats up top. There are in fact 10
windows, but the other 7 have plugs on them....

Thanks - thats what I was wondering, but I didn't know China Southern had 747 freighters. Thanks for the info.

Also Aviation Partners and Boeing have been developing winglets such as those on the 737-800 for retrofit in B737 Classics and B747-100/-200/-300/-400 so this could be one of the test aircraft although It will most likely be a freighter aircraft as Garudarod said.

Duane,

Glad to help. I believe that China Southern has 3 B744F on order to
operate Shenzen-ORD, Guangzhou-LAX and a point in Europe.
I know at one time they were leasing from Atlas Air, but they decided
they could operate the aircraft in house. I wouldnt be surprised to
see their B744F show up at HKG as well.

They have two on order and I can't wait to see them. Shame I'll have to go to Shenzhen to see them.

The only time they come to Hong Kong now (Using 5Y 744F's) is to go to HAECO. I guess with their own 744F's they can do it at GAMCO in Guangzhou.

One more thing......PICTURE !!
