Hello FlightSimFreak,

As far as I know, a carry-on bag must fit under your seat or in the overhead bin and cannot weigh more than 50 lbs. Its linear dimensions (length + width + height) cannot exceed 9" x 14" x 22". However if you're flying first or business, you can get an excess, that means if the buaggage exceeds the size, it doesn't matter as the staff will give you a tag showing that you can bring the bigger bag.

I know that there's a difference for the check-in bauggages on different airlines, if you're flying Y on domestic U.S routes and to Canada, your largest checked bag must have linear dimensions that do not exceed 62 inches and must weigh no more than 70 pounds. You can check-in 2 begs.

If you're flying international on Y, you should have a 20KG allowance, Business should be 30KG while F should be 40KG. 2 bags.

Best Regards

One more thing, laptops, briefcase, assistive devices and outer garments are exempted from the one-bag-carry-on policy. Also your carry-on buaggage, what i remember can't exceed 10KG in Y class. Not too sure about that.

Best Regards

Thanks... I have a small duffel for carryon, and a suitcase and large duffel (full of cloths). The only sort of heavy thing in my checked is my 6 inch TV. The hotel (actually a dorm at Loyola University) doesn't have a TV in it, and I decided I needed that. Thank you all, I won't be having any troubles

Actually, United doesn't pay much attention to weight. The MAXIMUM per piece is 70 POUNDS... they only weigh bags if they seem close to it.

Star Silver/Gold members are allowed 3 checked pieces, while standard luggage is 2. If you are moving away from college, you //can// check 2 of the large plastic tubs w/ all your stuff in it  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

For carry-on... they don't weigh them or even look at them... but keep it below 45 pounds.

Extra luggage is $75 per I believe (I've never had to pay, thank god).... sometimes they charge, sometimes they don't.

at united you are only allowed 1 large carryon and a brief case....the gate agents in chicago and washington national are very stricked on that....i was on one flight where the gate agent told 3 million mile flyers a 1k and then 3 premier executives including myself that we had to check our brief cases. we got really upset and talked to the supervisor and then just walked on the plane.

As a regular customer you are allowed 2 checked bags, as a premier executive or higher you are now only allowed 3 but you can negociate the allowance of 4 or 5 bags. i negociated for five bags two weeks ago at washington national.

actually aspen is right... only Star Gold / Premier Exec, 1K, Million Milers // are allowed 3 pieces.. I thought that also included basic 2Ps (Premiers).

The carry on restrictions are done by the gate agents, and out here on the left coast, it doesn't seem to be followed as I've always taken my larger backpack and another carry on.

I have another question that goes along with this. I'm flying on UA from JFK-LHR-AMS and I'll be there for 11 months, so I need to take quite a bit of stuff with me. My understanding is that I'm allowed 2 checked bags (up to 70 pounds) and 1 carry-on (under 50) to atleast London because any flight originating in the US or Canada qualifies for that. Will my connecting flight have the same limits? I don't want to get stuck with a fee for extra luggage.

With the carry on bags the rule is pretty simple.

One carry on plus a personal item. A carry on may not excide the size specified above. A personal item includes, but is not limited too...laptops, brief cases, and phanney packs (sp?). The basic rule of thumb with the personal item rule is that the item must be stowable under the seat infront of you. Backpacks and duffel bags are not personal items.

May I suggest that you go to www.UNITED.com and click on the baggage link on that page. That way you can get the "official" policy right from good old United!
