These are not CLT's first Caribbean destinations.
These two flights will benefit mainly from connecting traffic into CLT, they will hardly be O&D pax from Charlotte.

I am always surprised when US Airways adds service out of CLT especially to international destinations, people are surprised. You have to remember that CLT is the largest hub for US Airways. A good chunk of their flights connect in Charlotte at some point during the day.

As for CLT, with these two new flights it will become the the country's No. 3 Caribbean gateway hub, after Miami and Philadelphia, so US Airways must be doing well using CLT for that purpose. US Airways will have non-stop flights to 13 Caribbean cities from CLT. That compares with the 22 cities American Airlines serves from MIA and the 14 cities US Airways will serve from PHL. Smaller Caribbean hubs include JFK and EWR with 12 each, and ATL with seven.

The largest Caribbean hub in the US is not MIA, it is SJU.
